OK, pulled the HX35 off and swapped out the drain tube to the 40. Noticed on the 40 that the wastegate nipple is 180 degrees from the one on the 35. And also a rubber line runs from the wastegate to the housing on the 40.

So how am I suppose to hook the line back up that is on the truck to the turbo?? Also, this turbo is used and came off a 24V if it means anything. I appreciate anyones help.

Thanks in advance,

JD

You probly won't. All you need is boost to the gate and to the AFC. The AFC probly is getting boost off the mantifold. Cap any others off.

jblackwell - you will be fine. the waste gate is just actuated by the barb coming out of the compressor housing. the afc will/should get a signal from the intake manifold. just make sure anything not hooked up is capped of like sEmerson said. have fun with your new pdr 40!

You have to retime the turbo housing halves because of differences in exhaust manifold inner cooler inlet locations.

Demon means to "Clock" the turbo which means rotating the housings in relation to the center portion of the turbo to align with exhaust manifold, intercooling piping, etc. ;)

JD;

Manual trucks have the boost sense line running from compressor housing to AFC, auto trucks use a manifold port to AFC.

Either T into the line from the comp housing to wastegate or better yet redirect the AFC line to the intake manifold.

I understand about clocking it, and also understand about "T"ing into the line, but redirecting the AFC line into intake manifold??? Sorry for a dumb question, but I about cut my finger off pulling the flywheel for a 13" one and I had to drink a lot of beer to get the pain tolerance up.

I was taking it from the first guys that posted that I could just "plug" the line that was hooked up to the 35 and I would still get a boost signal.

I appreciate everyone elses replys... without you guys, I wouldn't be doing what I have already done to this "once bone stock truck".

I changed to a new computer and don't have my files transfered so I cannot give you a nice pictoral.

Plugging the original line that gives the AFC boost pressure will put you in permanent valet mode. (A valet switch cuts boost pressure to AFC for smoke control. )

Auto trucks have a line from AFC to an intake manifold tap. The wastegate actuator is a direct line from the compressor housing to limit boost pressure.

Manual trucks have a line from <strike>AFC</strike> wastegate actuator that crosses over the engine and Tees into the line between <strike>compressor housing and wastegate</strike> AFC housing and intake manifold.

Hope the finger heals well. At least the headache from beer will make the finger feel better tomorrow.

edit

Guilty of a few beers myself. Fixed the boost sense plumbing.

thanks nfox for making me read it again

I had the same questions when i installed my pdr40, just cap off the line that went to your hx35, your afc will still pickup a boost signal from the intake manifold. I had to rotate the housing a little to make them line up properly also. Make sure to fill the turbo with oil before you put the top oil feed line on to aid in lubrication during start up for the first time. You'll be amazed how much difference there is in power!! Have fun!! Oo.
