How do I Identify A "Triple Nickel" 555 CTD

holset vgt turbo on ebay: dodge cummins 2003 application????

I pulled my '91 Ford Superduty into the shop today so I can remove the 7. 3 "cavitation special" and install a reman 7. 3 this week. Need to get it going 'cause it is the plow truck - Western 9ft Heavyweight.

Any tips, tricks, or ways to cheat on getting the old out and the new in (besides paying someone else to do it)??? I know from experience that removing the heads while engine is in the truck is a major PITA!

Help anyone?

TIA

I pulled a 7. 3 N/A that had a banks turbo added on. WHAT A PAIN IN THE @$$!!!. the truck orginally had a 6. 9 so that made it even more interesting. and another thing that didn't help was my boss, who rebuilt it bout 5 yrs ago put the heman super death grip on every bolt.

We just had to pull the turbo off and remove the fan and radiator. Took me awhile because of the torque convertor bolts. had two of them round off. also had to pull the crankshaft pulley off to help it clear.

We're going to be putting a '94 7. 3 in there w/ the stock turbo so that could be interesting

7.3 removal

The only thing I did in removing my 92 7. 3 NA was to pull the radiator and fan blade/clutch assembly. It helps to have the hood off.

Reason I had to pull it was the Re-manufactured engine gave up after only 60-70k so be careful who you buy from. Email or PM me if you want to know the reman company.

Also - Have you thought about replacing your International with a Cummins 6b? A good used Cummins is about the same or less money as a reman 7. 3!

Good luck

Thanks guys!

It will be outta there in the morning and hopefully the reman sitting in there tomorrow night. In between office work and driving the school bus I get to work on it.

Buy the anti cavitation erosion stuff and make sure you kep the dose right. My 6. 9 reman I bought from Navistar eroded after about 70k miles.

It's a runnin'!

Thanks for the tips guys!

Got it on the road last night - too many disruptions!

I would much rather have a Dodge/Cummins 4500 but this is as close as I can get at the moment. When this engine pukes I will replace with a Cummins and Allison!!!
