Anything I should know when changing out my RBQ to RB1 navigation radio and antenna? Where does the antenna mount? Does the face of the dash around the radio just pop off to allow access?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the entire center stack pulls off. Don't forget to remove the screw at the bag hook first.

Thus ends my knowledge of this subject... ;)

There is a screw behind the hook for the garbage bag on the passenger side holding the dash bezel. Once that is out, carefully pop off the whole center section. You shouldn't have to disconnect anything, just let it hang. Four screws hold the radio in, once out pull the radio out and disconnect the antenna and 20pin connector. Connect antenna and 20 pin connector to radio and GPS antenna and slide back in. The GPS antenna can be mounted anywhere. They tell you to mount it on top of the HVAC tube behind the radio under the dash, but I ran mine under the dash and up the A-pillar and stuck it to the window and the top of the a-pillar. Pop dash back on, put screw in and your done. 15 minutes total

Behind the radio on the plastic heat a/c duct. Be sure to wipe the dust off before you stick it on. It works great in that spot.

Just did it on my '05 Laramie last weekend . . . everything is plug n' play. The GPS antenna is adhered to the horizointal A/C duct behind the radio head. Like catoiler mentioned, be sure to wipe off any dust on the A/C duct . . . an alcohol prep pad from a first aid kit works great. While I doubted the effectiveness of having the antenna hidden from view of the sky by the dash pad, I am receiving excellent GPS satellite reception and location accuracy.

EZ job . . . removal of the center stack & radio and installation of the RB1 and antenna took about 1 beer (12 minutes).

BTW, The RB1 integrates really well with steering wheel audio controls, U-Connect and Sirius . . . no disappointments here! Its one of the best investments I made on this rig so far.

PS - Ignore my signature, I need to update it for the '05.

Thanks for the help. Yep, it is a 1 beer job (had to work fast). I had the old radio out, antenna mounted, new one back in less than 15 minutes.

OK, next part. Where do you mount the Sirius receiver and antenna? I am about to order both.

Thanks, Mike

I can help there (Sirius) It's a pain but it mounts to the left of the steering behind that big white plastic wire cover. I just mounted the antenna on the drivers dash up near the windshield and it works just dandy. It took me a hour to fit the dang receiver, but the rest is pretty easy. Feel free to call with any questions 571-238-8056

Mike,

SIRIUS was factory-installed on my rig. The antenna is a small gray pod (about the size and shape of a cab clearance light) mounted towards the rear of the roof, just ahead of the center high-mounted stop light.

It appears that the receiver may be mounted underneath the RR seat, to the rear of the fold flat floor (unless that's the sensor for the side curtain airbags). I'll pull down the IP knee bolster later on and take a look there.

Jeff,

Did you get a chance to check the mounting locations? I ordered the sirius kit today and it looks like it will be here tomorrow.

Thanks, Mike

On the kit I got it mounted between the left kick pannel and the e-brake. On the 05 it is mounted under the rear seat on the right side. Can't say for sure what kit you will get. When you mount the antenna MAKE SURE to pull the headliner out of the way so you won't drill through it!The dome lite wire is attached to the top of the headliner also.

Mike,

Here are some pics of the factory antenna installation on my '05.

Mike,

Couldn't get a 3rd image on my last post for some reason, so here it is . . . this is the factory receiver installation underneath the RR seat, between the fold-flat floor and the rear bulkhead of the cab. This view was taken from the RR door opening.

Hope this helps, good luck with your install!

On the '05 the mounting location didn't change, it's still under the dash, drivers side, 'tween the kick panel and ebrake. The instuction are fairly clear and should give you all the info you need. See my post above if you need help.
