I picked up some tow hooks a while back for my truck but did not get any hardware. Can I just go to the hardware store and pick up some stainless bolts and bolt them on or do I need something else. They are just the factory hooks and I got them off of ebay.

Thanks,

Joe

You should for grade #8 steel or stainless if you can find , but grade 8 is the most important part , and grade 8 will most likly come from auto parts store not from hardware.

If you plan on using the tow hooks make sure you have/use all four reinforcing brackets that go with them

reinforcing brackets

Where do I get the reinforcing brackets and where do they go. I bought my hooks off of ebay and did not get any. Should I purchase a new kit with the brackets and bolts.

Thanks, Joe

Tow Hooks

YES. You got burned like I did. Thought I saved a bunch of money on Ebay. I didn't do the research. Ouch.

Buy a new kit with HOOKS and BRACKETS from your Dodge dealer. You get the whole kit with instructions.

I wish I had thought it all through up front. I need the tow hooks but I may need a stouter bumper. I almost got a deer on the highway last month. Last week I spotted an Elk on the road.

I ordered a Denver Offroad Bumper. Light weight but strong.

Where is the best place to buy tow hooks that come complete with the reinforcement brackets? How hard are they to install?

Thanks,

Blake

I found my local dealer to be the best deal when I factored in shipping in buying them from a online parts place or eBay. The install is a little difficult as some of the bolts are hard to get in and difficult to tighten, It was quite a while ago when I installed mine, I think I had to loosen the intercooler to shift it up to get two of the bolts in, you also have to loosen the bumper brackets.

Thanks Bertram! Any know the part number for the hooks? I get a discount, so will call the dealer. If I get this oil job, I will definitely need tow hooks!

Well I ordered the tow hooks from my dealer. Any suggestions on installation?

BTW, I got the oil job, so I can just imagine where my truck may end up

I think the directions say to remove the front bumper, I did not and just loosened or removed the bolts that hold it on and moved it slightly, definetly have to unbolt the intercooler and shift it up slightly, all in all not too bad, tight quarters for some of the bolts and nuts so skinned knuckles are definetly a possability.

tow hooks

I viewed this post too late... . I have a suggestion that could have saved you $$$. Go to the Drawtite (the hitch people) website and look up what's called a front reciever. Mine was 115. 00 delivered. It is much stronger that the tow hooks and it also allows you to insert a number of things such as a ball or pintel hook, winch, cargo rack... . or just about anything you can stick in the 2" reciever hole.

Installation is a snap... . drop the stabilizer bar inset the hitch bracket between the frame and the SB bracket and bolt it up. All new hardware included.

Thanks. I have not yet installed my hooks, so the front receiver might be a better aproach. My cousin has the hooks on his and he hates them as he said he can't get a chain hooked to them.

Thanks for the advice!

Thought I'd post this here rather than starting a new thread. Has anyone w/ factory tow hooks removed the front bumper? The reason I ask is that my RoadArmor should be here the end of the week and yesterday when I crawled under the truck to see what is involved in removing the bumper, it looked like the tow hooks will come off with the bumper. If so, it should be a piece of cake since the bumper has 2 bolts on each side to remove and they are easily accessible. Any insight would be appreciated.
