Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Installing trany temp guage need help finding a port

I have searched just about everything I can think of. Somewhere in these forums someone had a trany pipe to the trany heat exchanger that was modified with a 1/8 npt for a temp sensor. Clue me in on where to point please. I think it may have been one of the commercial companies, but I have gone through about 50 diesel accessory company web sites and can't find it.



If someone has a better idea, I'm game for that too. would rather not drop $230 for a Mag-Hytec if I don't have to just to get a temp sensor port for the trany.

The cooler line into the transmission is generally accepted here as the best place for your sender. I replaced my line with a line made for a '95 model truck. This line has a port built into it. It goes from the transmission to the heat exchanger. The line goes for about $90. from the dealer (I paid $70 for mine with a discount). There is also a less expensive kit that someone sells - but I forget who. If you do a search on trans temp gauge or sender, you should fine it. The line from the dealer works nice because it bolts right on - all the right bends and everything. The only thing with it is you need to remove the drainback valve since there's one in the heat exchanger. You don't want two of these in the line. To remove it from the new line, you just have to dig the check ball and spring out of the end of the line. There's a trick to it, but it's not hard.

Jannetty Racing also sells a fitting kit that splices into the line. You could also "t" off the line yourself (make your own). I went with the replacement line from dodge that has the port built into it. Taking the check ball out took all of 5 minutes.

If you have the 47re auto.....

I just installed my guages on my 2002, and got a temp sending unit that was included with the kit from Diesel Power Products. This was a 1/4" NPT sender that attached to a test port on our transmission, and from appearance this test port is en-route to the cooler line, not in the pan. You will find this test port plugged with a 10mm (if I remember correctly) hex plug, on the drivers side, near the rear top of the transmission.



If this works for you, it is a very easy location to install the sender.

funny you should ask this question, i was in search a day or so ago. personally i ordered the temp manifold (for electric gauge) from www.jannettyracing.com check out their web site any way, way cool stuff they have video and sound streams of dodge diesels and tons of accesories, my personal favorite is the dual ats 4" exhaust kit check out where it exits totally *****in' good luck
