2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Instrument Blub Check?

I have a 2002 CTD. Am curious is there is a procedure that one can use to check 1) the instrument panel bulbs and 2) the hours on the engine.

I am unsure if you can check the hours on this year CTD but, as for the bulb check. Before turning the key, press and hold the odometer button in and hold in while turning the ignition to "on", (not starting) You will then see the gauges start to do their thing, you can release the button.

Now that I think of it, I'm not sure this does do the bulbs, I know it allows you to check the gauges function though.

Sorry, I'm trying to do this by memory...
