I need some help as to why my cluster may have quit working. The truck is a 98 2500 12v.

This happened overnight. When the key is on, truck running or not, the abs light and air bag lights are on. None of the gauges work. When you turn the key on, it looks like the gauges 'zero', but they don't go up at all, ever. The parking brake light does not come on.

For those that have the Isspro Turbo Temp Monitor, the panel looks like when my key is off and the TTM is keeping the truck running. I tried unhooking the TTM, but it made no difference.

I tried the 'hold the odometer button down then turn the key on' test, and it gave me a whole bunch of codes. But, the gauges did function properly during the sweep test.

Oh, and I checked all the fuses... .

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Matt

My 98 12v Did the same thing some time back. it was like that for days. I took it to the dealer and when he pluged in his test equipment, (not sure where that is) the dash went back to working  and has worked ever since. We never did figure out what was wrong or what caused it.

Good Luck,

Terry

My mini-van did that once for about 2 day. The dash just quit and I was at a complete loss. Then all the sudden, it just turned back on. This was about 6 years ago and I have had no problems since. I know this is not giving you an answer, but maybe some hope.

Find someone with an ODBII or DRB scan tool, and hook it up. Might be able to do an internal reset of the computer. Not sure, my ODBII scanner doesnt like my '96 :(

good luck

Well, I hooked up the laptop tonight, but all I got was a bs code about 'fuel level voltage high limit' or something. I tried to clear it, but it wouldn't clear the code. No change in gauge operation... .

My computer was seeing the coolant temp and rpms just fine, so does that mean the problem is in the cluster or connection to the cluster as opposed to a PCM problem?

BTW, I am using OBDScan by Dan Harrison.

Any other ideas?

Thank you!

Matt

PCM plugs

Check your PCM plugs. I posted "Watch your PCM"

Mine did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and found it to be very simple.

One of the 3 plugs on the PCM (located on firewall behind air box) had vibrated loose or never got plugged in totally from the factory or something.

I also read alot of posts on the rear wheel speed sensor found on top of the rear diff.

Good luck.

Eric

By the way, mine did have working tach and temp etc like yours and was the pcm. You will also not have lift pump or transmission shifting (if you are auto)
