2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission A/C problems

I need to ask a gasser question for a family member (1500 4X4 1998).

1. driving down the road my B-in-Law noticed he lost his gauges, subsequently found his idiot lights also inoperable except seat belt and ABS light always on.

2. He says he checked all junction block and PDC fuses - ok.

3. All lights DO work through bulb check relay at startup!!!

4. I had him run the onboard CHEC function for instrument cluster - the gauges all responded normally and lamps lit.

5. after this, at startup his gauges now work - but lights did not UNTIL next startup. Now the entire I/C is working - for now.

Anyone had this experience?? I suspected it wasn't a short/continuity problem as lamps lit at startup and the chec function proceeded normally. Is he losing a logic unit (part of PCM - hope not!! or Central Timer unit???)

Mystified!!

I am having the same problem on a 12V 98 4x4. Driving down the road the gauges seem to drop off line, this includes the RPM, speed, engine indicators and the fuel gauge. The Odometer stars blinking and the low fuel light comes on. Sometimes they'll come back on line and sometimes they don't. Sounds like a similar problem, but I have not found a fix yet. Let me know if you find something and I'll do the same.
