I have a 2001 with 10k miles and I have an instrument noise coming from behind the instrument panel. It start at 5k and has continued to get worse. As soon as I get above 2300 rpm and the motor starts to work; boost greater than 10, I get a instrument "whrilling" noise from behind the panel. Sound like a faulty RPM guage or some type of mechanical gauge problem. The dealer of course can not hear or find anything. Has anyone experience similiar problems and or solutions? It is not real loud but without the stereo on it gets annoying on long trips.

I dont have a CB or Ham so I don't know what is causing mine. All I know that it only does it when the motor is working hard > 2200 rpm about 18 boost. I quess I need to take the mechanic on the road with me and do some heavy pulling to duplicate. I am 90% confident that it is in the instrument panel...

Buzzing Noise

I am experiencing the same condition as you have described.

The buzzing noise appears to be eminating from within the dash. It seems to be loudest above the radio. It appears around 2000 rpm. The noise is occuring whether the truck is in gear and cruising down the highway or parked in the driveway and revving at 2000 rpm.

I will be spending some time this weekend investigate its source.

I'll let you know my findings.

Buzzing Noise Found!

Well... er... . I found the source of my dash panel noise.

Would you believe my windshield mounted radar detector. I have a Passport unit that developed a rattle internally. I disassembled the unit and discovered the laser detector lens was rattling. After some tweaking with its mounting, I eliminated the rattle.

Mine made an annoying buzz that I traced to the aluminum VIN tag on the dash at the base of the windshield. Folded matchbook cover underneath fixed it right up.
