Hey guys, I have a real problem with my 2001 3500 dually. I have a squeek that occurs after about 45 minutes of driving. It appears to be coming from inside the instrument panel. I had it into the garage again and they tied all the wires together under the hood with tie-wraps. Of course, no change in the squeek. They love to drive my truck and the last time had it out for 30 minutes and said no squeek. I said of course not - I told you it does not start for about 45 minutes. This is a constant squeek when it does begin and occurs with every vibration in the road. It is like a spring making noise. Have any of you fellows experienced this? Really like to get this problem solved as the mechanics are just scratching their heads.

I know how you feel I had a similar sound. Carson Dodge fixed mine by applying a spray lube on the steering shaft just outside the firewall, give it a try and good luck.

Does the squeek/creak go away if you pull up or press down on the steering wheel or change the tilt position? My '96 has a squeek that appears to be caused by the steering column rubbing the dash right under the instrument panel bezel.

Brian you have explained the squeak I had to a tee. I got the cure just spray lithium grease on the steering shaft. You need to spray it where the shaft has the u-joint on the upper end. I am sure this will fix it, after a week of tearing my truck apart inside and out this was the fix.

Thanks a lot guys! RankRam - I will tell the mechanic about spraying the U-joint. Brian - I will also change the tilt of the wheel and see if that does any good. Eric

I have a similar squeek, rattle, or whatever... for the longest time I thought it was coming from the passenger side, then I thought it was somewhere in the dash. My brother-in-law narrowed it down to, believe it or not, the overhead console! Whenever I get the squeeking I just reach up and put some pressure on the side of my console... and, it's under control! Works for me anyway.

the spray trick worked for me! Thank you #ad
