OK - let the modding begin. Eventually, intake, exhaust and chip(s), but really nothing past that. Look at my sig for the rig.

Want something that will breathe better, but a little worried about intake noise. I have done intakes on gassers and had one that was just so noisy that it really the truck a PITA to drive. The wife did not care for it much. So wanting something that will not be really noisy, kind of ear of the beholder here, but give me some advice.

I installed the AFE Stage 2 on my truck a couple of weeks ago. Definitely helps the engine get more air. The only increased noise is being able to hear the turbo as it spools up. Not objectionable at all. Truck seems a little more responsive and fuel mileage may have improved slightly.

I installed a BHAF, see RR, I also took out the silencer ring so you can hear the turbo a little better. BHAF is cheap and effective. I have about $90 into mine including the filter and the Outerwears cover.

I also did the AFE stage 2 and took silence ring out. Love it. The silencer ring will acutally cut down on turbo bark.

I have an AFE stage 1 with the Torque Tube. It's more quiet than the stage 2, but still loud. It will make your truck sound like a big rig.

The best filtration comes from paper, like a BHAF (Big Honkin' Air Filter). Greg Boardman w/ DRC has a sweet kit, but it will be loud.

Next best is the AFE ProGuard 7 filter. Make sure you order that filter no matter what AFE intake you might order.

If you're looking for something more quiet, Volant makes a high flow intake with a sealed air box. Not as loud as the AFE, but louder than stock. They have an 8 layer filter available, but I doubt it filters as well as a PG7.

Also there's the Scotty Air systems. They're kind of cool since they use UNI filters, like the ones you see on dirt bikes. They are also of a sealed design, quieter than stock.

You can get an AFE stage 1, but skip the Torque Tube. You'll have increased flow, but not the noise. There are air baffles in the stock intake that will quiet the turbo whine. That (with the PG7) is probably the best compromise.

Leaving the stock airbox with a drop-in filter is basically useless, IMO.

Whatever you do, stay away from K&N filters. Hold one up to a light, you can see pinholes of light... . Straight passages for dirt to travel through.

I ordered the AFE stage 2. Hopefully it is not too bad. I plan to add some exhaust mods which might drown it out! Oh the wife is gonna kill me.

For exhaust, look no further than a MBRP "600" muffler replacement kit (seeing as you have 4" already from the factory)

Easy install, easy on the wallet, and sounds awesome - all IMO of course :D

Hey Tommy how much did you pay for just the mbrp muffler? I can't seem to find a price from the vendors that carry that system for just the muffler.

I was looking at 5 inch exhaust kits. My experience with gas trucks was that exhaust upgrades made the most difference in feel, not sure how they dyno. I also have experienced that larger diameter freerer flowing exhasut push more noise to the tailpipe and less into the cab.

Is it worth it to go 5 inch? Or should is just replace the muffler, and pull hte cat from my 4 inch?

5" tends to be significantly louder than 4" and hasn't been prooven to be more efficient in terms of power until you're pushing the 500 hp level.
