Intake Manifold - Benefits?

2007 5.9 Injectors?

Horsepower vs. Horse Power

AH64ID, I just looked up that spool aid and it looks interesting. Do you or anybody else have any results on it that can be shared?

no doubt... I really hope we could get some more info for stock trucks that work hard in the Texas heat...

maybe we need a seperate thread started on this spool aid kit????

Sorry about that, you're right... GDP's plenum is called the "air buss". .
It's a really nice product also--

It may look shiny , but thats about it. They simply tried to copy the Tunnel Ram but without the proper design it doesnt work well. ;)

DCreed,

After reading some of your past posts and threads, I have NO problem recognizing that you are the original designer/inventor of this type of plenum for a CTD. That in itself deserves kudos !!!

And again, I apologize for mistakenly calling GDP's "Air Boss" plenum a "Tunnel Ram", which is clearly the name you have designated for the intake plenum that you designed and built.

That being said, Richard from GDP, from my own experience with him as a designer and builder of upgraded parts for our mighty trucks, ALSO puts lot of thought and effort into his designs. I highly doubt that he made a part that simply looks shiny but doesn't do what it claims to do.

I have the Wilson Thrasher manifold on my 05 CR ride and can honestly say I do not see much of a difference. As I have always said intake manifolds are a taste thing like ice cream... You pick the flavor you think you like and go for it. I know the high dollar Banks Twin Ram on my recently sold 12v only helped even out the exhaust temps front and rear it added zero in performance... ... Andy

So HOW did you know that it helped even out EGTs front to back. Did you have individual pyrometers for each cylinder?? Just asking.

Seafish- I did a LOT of R&D (way more than the thread shows) To come up with the final design. I know what works and what doesnt and why. I certainly do not know everything, but after devoting a few years to a single part, I have a pretty good grasp on the subject.
If you dont believe in copies, look @ his "new" 2nd gen piece. its almost close enough to work. I have tried twice so far to contact him about it but I think a certified letter from a lawyer is needed.

My AFE Bladerunner looks great under the hood, but aside from a lighter wallet I couldn't tell the difference. Looking at the restricted stocker you'd think it would make a huge improvement, but in my case, nothing.

In my dyno testing experience with intake

Horns the torque gain doubled from stock

To an additional 100 hp and the normal

Air flow mods

Now how many people have the pedal matted

While towing???

None of us who tow at legal speeds with safe

Weight numbers NEED more than the the 325 we were

I went to the other website, and read all 30 pages of info. I never realized just HOW restrictive flow was to #1 and #6 until I saw those pics!!!
This actually seems viable and easy to install. Those that have installed it claim quicker spool and less smoke, and cooler EGTs.
I may just have to do this, even though I don't seem to have any problem with spool up speed. Cooler air to 1/6 would just be good insurance.

Me again doing a little more research .....

Does anyone have a link to this "other website"? ...... I'd like to read up on this subject. I've heard about the stock intake problems with #1 and #6 cylinders.

I'm looking into possibly installing a Pusher Cross-Air intake manifold.

As always, thanks in advance for any help.

I installed a Crazy Carl billet intake plate this morning. No where near as good fit/finish/machining integrity as any Keating piece, or even a factory cast piece for that matter.

The piece has a lot of rough edges unlike a Keating or factory piece.

Setting the intake plate on a glass surface - rocked from 1-2 mm end to end - not sure how this passed quality control/frequent jig checks.

Being a sucker for shiny bits, tossed it on anyway. Torqued the bolts to 20 ft-lbs, doesn't seem to leak, but a non flat sealing plate is unacceptable in a cast piece, let alone a high dollar billet piece.

The bolt hole placement next to the intake horn closest to the valve covers was improperly located - had to grind the side of the horn a bit so the supplied socket head bolt would thread into the horn/head straight.

No copper washers supplied, and non flanged bolts...no slightly added insurance against potential steel to aluminum degradation.

Lastly, the placement of the horn could have been moved forward or back by 3/16"...not possible to screw another bolt in without discarding the clamp, and cannot torque that bolt without moving the bracket for the bolt right behind it. So one of those bolts torque is a guesstimate at best.

Next - smoke, spool, boost, EGT.

No difference in smoke, no quicker spool, no boost drop indicating less restriction, and no "additional" EGT drop at WOT or idle/shutdown.

Like, how many of us install 6 individual temp probes to measure cylinder equalization resulting in closely balanced EGTs...thats up to the manufacturer to do, and have graphs/results to back up the gains.

I can safely conclude that any prior "improvements" with smoke, spool, EGT on a 12v were reported by owners with old, compromised intake plate gaskets. Not applicable in my case, as my intake & grid heater gaskets are 6 months old; I still used new gaskets though.

Definitely needs R&D and some serious quality control; actual fitment on an engine by the vendor would be a definite plus.

I will recheck torque values/hand calculated mileage claims in about a week & report back.

This summer I thought I'd spend a few $ on my trucks and I installed a Cool-it BD intercooler with 3.5" inlet/outlets on both my trucks. Faster spoolup and cooler EGT. To take advantage of 3.5" intercooler I ordered Pusher 3.5" intake horn and pipes for my 05 and just 3.5" passenger side pipe for my 03. It made a huge difference on my 05. Better mpg and I could turn up my smarty touch now as EGT didn't go as high.

Pusher makes a nice product but customer service sucks. They only use hoses that are 3.5"x3" stock hoses are 4.5". I had to spend an extra $200 to get quality hoses that were 4" long. Before I switched hoses they would leak and slip off all the time. It wouldn't cost them much more to include 4" long hoses. They cheap out on clamps as well the BD kit came with top quality clamps. Pusher needs to up this game. If you order from them tell them to keep their clamps and hoses as they aren't up to snuff.
