I have noticed as I look at some TDR member's pictures of their engines, that I don't see a lot of aftermarket intake air horns. I have an ATS Arc Flow on mine but of course have no idea if it ever made a difference in performance or intake volume or temperature. Has any member's out there ever done a study or test of any aftermarket intake air horn against the stock unit? Is there anyone out there make 350+ HP with a stock air intake? I would like to hear input from the membership on their experiences. Thank you in advance.

My 06 puts out 325 from the factory with the stock intake, 350 is no problem. I don't think there's much to be gained with intake and exhaust mods on these trucks unless you're pushing the extreme of performance levels.

Turbocharged engines don't respond to intake manifold mods like naturally aspirated engines. Whereas equal runner length, smooth, flowing runners, etc. can make significant power improvements on naturally aspirated engines, turbocharged engines are more "brute force" when it comes to induction. 35 PSIG boost (which I ran on my mildly bombed 2002) can jam air through a lot of intake restrictions that might be very detrimental to a naturally aspirated engine - the whole B-series intake system is a prime example. My mildly bombed 2002 (Edge EZ, DD2 injectors, BHAF, 4" Jardine exhaust) tuned for towing made 347/762 uncorrected at the rear wheels (approaching 400/900 at the flywheel with 15% drivetrain losses).

On the second gen there is virtually no gains,On the 3rd gen The AFE made a noticable diff in the 17-to 2k range untill you get into the boost where the diff almost goes awayI did flow testing on a number of different brands and there is a difference

So, Bob4x4, I have been contemplating "simplifying" my 2003.5 H.O. without compromising what I already have power wise. I like the cleaner look the stock intake horn affords as opposed to that monstrosity of the ATS Arc-Flow. Trying to decide whether to pull off the ATS or leave it alone. I only tow with this pickup and seldom use it otherwise for a total of about 4,000 miles a year.

Thank you all for your responses!

Thank you for all the responses. BOB4x4, My next question would be with the mine being a third gen and I like towing in that 1900 to 2000 range, would it be more beneficial for me to leave the ATS in place? I am looking to clean up my engine compartment and I'd like to remove that big air horn. I use this pickup for 90% towing and only put about 4K a year on in miles. I also have an adjustable boost elbow that is "closed" and the most boost I see is about 28 PSI with my Smarty Jr on tow. Any further thoughts would be very appreciated.

Sometimes I really dislike computers. Sorry about the double post folks. I thought the first disappeared but it was there......
