Since I'm currently on a limited budget, I'm considering either an intake or exhaust for my '97 CTD. Which would provide the most noticeable drop in EGTs and increase in gas mileage? I know there's debate about the filtering ability of the wet-gauze style filter, but my plan would be to just swap them for hauling trips and leave the stock box in place most of the time. Any recommendations on an intake? I hear the Psychotty is good.

I would reccomend uncorking the exhaust. Intake modifications do very little if the exhaust is still restrictive.

Stick with the 3" you still have, get rid of the CAT (if you have one), and stock muffler. Replace them with a Dynomax 3" welded race muffler placed as far back as possible and a sectiopn of 3" pipe.

Darel,

I may get beat on for this but for EGT reduction on a budget, do a search on the BHAF under products/accessories. That done, take care of the exhaust as Diesel Freak suggested.

Generally, modifying the exhaust, injectors, etc. are not going to give you that much if any mpg gain. They will give you power with minimal drop in mileage unless your "in it" all the time. If the timing and valves are set, fuel filter clean, etc. driving habits and highway tires work the best for mileage gains.
