Catch Can

I was out setting valve lash this afternoon and noticed that the #2 intake rocker arm was always able to wiggle back and forth. I went through the rotations of TDC and then BDC just to see if the arm work tighten up like it should.
Anyone know what could be causing this?
New engine with only 300 miles on it. Runs and drives fine.

Make sure this piece is intact and not missing or lash will be loose. The little plastic caps crack and the metal tip can go "missing" during installation.

Thanks I'll check that out tomorrow but I didn't notice anything while setting the lash today.
It's not that the lash is loose, the rocker arm itself can wiggle. You know how you have to rotate the crank to adjust certain valves. Well no matter what rotation I do, #2 intake rocker is always able to wiggle. I'm worried it might be a valve issue not closing properly

Define "wiggle" a little better, that is not very descriptive about what is actually happening.

When setting the lash only certain rocker arms should be able to move depending on the stroke of the cylinders. When I say wiggle I'm talking about being able to take two fingers and move it front to back just the slightest amount. That indicates that valve lash is able to be set on that particular valve. When you spin the crank another 360 , different rocker arms will be free and lash set

If you are able to feel "lash" when under tension you might have a cam problem. Are you able to see the rocker move as much as one of the others when it should be opening the valve?

If you mean you can move it back and forth on pivot that is likely just wear related. If you want to be sure upgraded to the 6.7 rocker assemblies.

From what I can see the rocker is moving just fine with the push rod and compressing the spring. Thing is this engine only has 400 miles on it now

Engine rebuild may be fresh but were the rocker assemblies replaced with new or just re-used? The 5.9 rockers lacked adequate lube so they would gall and wear possibly causing slack that could make them move around even under full tension, reason for he 6.7 upgrade replacement.

Yep. Pull the rocker assembly apart and check, likely galled and worn on the pivot leaving extra slack.

Finally got around to doing this. Think I found the issue. Push rod end is smashed in.

Replaced that pushrod with a new one, reset all valve lash clearance, and I still get that damn thumping noise in the intake air box at idle. I describe it as a fast bouncing basketball. Could it be a noise I'm not used to hearing since the block is sleeved on the #5 cylinder? It's only at idle that I can hear it. It's not as loud when I'm in park but if I put it in reverse or drive it gets louder. It runs and drives great, hold boost at 22-23psi. No smoke at idle and just a little black puff when I really open it up.
