Just got an email from a buddy on the beach in Baja for the winter. He had the intank pump put in his 2nd generation yr 2000+- before he left Washington and had no probs on the 2000mi+ trip down towing. Now that the trailer is unhooked and he's hitting speed bumps faster, he has had trouble with fuel starved type shudder right after hitting a speed bump and then things return to normal after a bit. He says it's not the same as a plugged fuel filter as he has experienced that before. The fear is that something isn't right with the intank pump install. What should he check? What should I take with me next month to help when I join him? Thanks for suggestions. Jim Beck

Does he have a FP gauge? What is the FP doing when he hits a speed bump?

Sounds like a loose connection.

My money is on a poorly wired relay, either scotch lock connections or a poorly grounded relay.

I agree... if it is wired like people say Dodge has done... then that's were I'd check... maybe even a weak relay dropping out??

Either that or the pump itself is faulty... I have seen intank pumps act this way because they were assembled poorly.

The intank pump on my 95 gasser 2500 lasted to 118,000 miles. Thats a lot more than I can say for the current CTD pump setup. As I recall it cost me $569 to replace though. :{ My current truck's lift pump made it to 72K and now at 80K I think the "new" one is fluctuating. I need to replace the fuel filter first though, to be sure.
