Howdy fellers!

I've been on here for a while, but somehow I've managed to miss all the details about which trucks or which years have what turbos. I think my truck (see sig) has the HX-35. But for all I know, it could have a Mig-20   :D

What different turbos have come out of the factory on our trucks, on which year trucks, and what are the differences between them (design & performance)? Thanks!

JyRO:

Issue #38 of the TDR had a "breakdown" of the different

turbos installed on the Dodge CTD's from 1989 to 2001.

Here is a "reprint" of what they had listed:

1989-1991. 5 - Holset WH1 Turbo with 18. 5 cm housings

1991. 5-1992 - Holset WH1 Turbo with 21cm housings

1993 - Holset WH1 Turbo with 18. 5cm housings

1994-2000 - Holset HX-35 Turbo with 12cm housings

2001 ETC - Holset HY-35 Turbo with 9&10cm housings

2001 ETH - Holset HX-35 Turbo with 12cm housings

Hope this has helped you some.

What performance difference does the different housing sizes make? I'm guessing more turbo lag with bigger housings, but more total boost with bigger housings. Is that right? What exactly is the housing? Is it the diameter of the turbo feed?

Lastly, is the difference between the HY & HX merely the housing size, or is there more? Now I'm going to go read the posted link. Maybe that'll answer some of these questions. Thanks for the replies guys! ;)

The compressior side of the HY is a tiny bit smaller then the HX from what I can tell looking at the turbos side bye side. :)

I always thought the "W" designated a wastegated turbo--is that not the case?

Cummins made a mistake on my ETH... I has a 14 cm housing.
