What intercooler is most effiecent, cummins or duramax? Im getting ready to do another conversion. Last time I used the cummins, but I wonder if the duramax intercooler&radiator would work better. The truck is a 97 Chevy K3500.
I tried a maxipad (stock) cooler. It seemed sorta inefficient and less airflo. Just my thoughts. No real data to prove it. Only had a 3. 8L diesel. Less airflo than maxipad so I thought it should work. Ran plenty hot. I didn't have the radiator so can't say about that. I'd stick with cummins stuff... if I could find the room!
I was running my 88-98 Conversion on the road last year with my highly modified cummins (600hp aprox) in it and a D-Max IC and it worked great. I did a bunch of math befor I put it in with displacement and RPM and figured out than the DMAX put out ALOT more CFM than a stock cummins so that was my major choice... Straight 3" in and out and doesn't tapper down. The dodge unit comes in at 3. 5" and tapers down to 3"xsomething like 2" going into the charger.
I also found I could fit the Dmax unit into the truck easier but still took mods to both the rad support and the IC. Its not sitting in my shop collecting dust seeing I am not running one in my pulling setup.
I do have pics and if you search under my name you will see quite a few pics of my whole conversion and onces of the IC/Rad. I used the 6. 5L rad as it worked plumbing wise for all the HVAC. It fit right into the IC with only having to sand a "hair" off the back side of the fins on the plastic tank.
