Correct me if im wrong, but what i have been told is that our first gen have 2. 5" intercooler piping? and 2nd gen have 3" piping? if that so where can i get some 3" piping that work with our diesel? is there somewhere speical that i need to get them from? Or is there a way i can reuse my piping? the reason for this is because i got my hands on a used 2nd gen intercooler.

Most of us are using exhaust pipe. it wouldn't have to be stainless. Aluminized works wellbut the coating must be cleaned off prior to welding. Then paint to color desired.

But then there is me, the exception. I used intake tubing from roadrace engineering where I got all my sillycone adapter hoses and clamps. Not aluminized, no coating, thinner wall.

Jay had ORIGINALLY utalized cardboard shipping cylinders. No joke. It's true.

Thinking he had used duct-tape to secure them together.

You could get 2. 5" to 3" reducer/expanders in silcon or plain rubber, high heat rubber even if necessary. Then use your piping. If you have to have the bigger, keep an eye on ebay, it's there. 16 gauge exhaust as previously stated. Check out McMaster-Carr, they have enough pipe and tube selection on there to keep you busy until after Christmas ;)

Yes... then that model went to a welder along with the pipe. This way I got what I wanted... not what the welder felt like making. All the joints and bends I created were carefully calculated for maximum efficiency and power. and I didn't want them compromised.

I admit I was tempeted to make a test run with the cardboard model... ..... :-laf

I am looking into upgrading the breathing system on my 91. 5. Will the 2nd gen intercooler work as well on the first gen rig as a pre 2002 Ford PS intercooler? Am doing the pre-turbo piping from the air filter box to the compressor side in silicone hose. Have to fab a reducer and find stainless steel hose clamps, 4" and 4. 5". Hope to tackle the after turbo to the intake horn later. Any ideas? Sources for clamps? (Not the worm style, protected or otherwise. ) Saw a thread where the gentleman fabbed his own intake horn. Perfect! Thanks in advance for your input. GregH
