Anybody done a 4b (non-turbo) conversion?

Chevy 6.5L to CTD

I'm swapping a 12v from a 98 into my 1973 IH pickup. The steering box is right where the intake pipe from the intercooler would go in the dodge ( box is outside the frame instead of inside like a 98 dodge ) the inter cooler seams too fit if i flip it upside down and have the outlets on top. This would reverse the air flow from the stock configuration. Will the air flow through it as well as stock or are they built to be directional with the air flow? Any help is appreciated

Flip the intercooler upside down, so the hoses are up high. Scot has some excellent pictures how this worked for his ford. Downside is you have to replumb, but he had hints in there how to do that.

Wish I woulda looked first and cut second - my 1978 crew is mising some metal on the inside fenderwells to accommodate the factory intercooler plumbing. Plus, using a second gen intercooler, the driver's side is in the fenderwell, so I'll be building a liner to protect it. .

sounds like it was really tight will probably be just as tight in my IH. Sounds like it work for him. Thanks for the reply. TDR is just too cool of a resource, thanks to it's members

You might look into one of the intercoolers from the late model flowersmokes (poserstrokes). They are about the same width as the first generations, but are taller and thicker.
