My 2004. 5 has a pinhole in the intercooler. No power and has a whistle. It was not Dodge's fault. I ran over something on the road. Dealer tells me the part is on national back order. The part number is 55056671AA. He advised me that it could be anywhere from a few days to 3 months To get the part. I called Customer service which was a waste of 45 minutes, Held on for 36 minutes before getting an operator.

The service manager at the dealer told me that Cummins makes the part. Called the local Cummins distributor and they said they do not make that part.

I am new at this so any suggestions to get my truck back running would be appreciated.

Seems like there has to be a way to do a temp fix on the one you have. Dealer may not want to do double work but there has to be a way to plug that hole, maybe brazing it or even JB Weld in a pinch!

Wouldn't a quality tire patch fix it if it's the plastic part? Tire patches hold 80 lbs; the intercooler doesn't see that much unless you're WAY bombed.

For a temporary fix:

remove the intercooler

drill a hole in the pin hole large enough to put a small screw in

mix up some J-B weld

put some j-b weld on the screw and screw it in

replace the intercooler

Make sure you get all the shavings from the drilling cleaned out of the intercooler. That is why you want to remove it.

I have no idea how hard it is to remove the intercooler.

Good Luck!

a pinhole shouldn't cause too much of a low power issue... don't know what IC you have [plastic or aluminum tanked] but both should be able to be fixed temp or perminantly... in the alloy end tanks, you could find a welder who can work with cast alloy well and have them put a spot on the pinhole... or grind the area clean, and put some of that steel epoxy on it and it will hold... plastic end tanks, some 5 min epoxy should do it,...
