I have a few questions about putting an intercooler in my early 91.

1. Since I already have a little "hotter" injectors than an intercooled truck would have stock, Would adding an intercooler put me in the same horsepower range as an intercooled truck with 185's?

2. Who makes Some kits to do this? I see that banks has one in their bigger kits but I just want the intercooler?

3. How much money?

Thanks

An intercooler will help lower EGT's so you will be able to attain higher HP levels with the same equipment.

Try to find a junk yard one, but make sure to pressure test it.

That's about all I can say to help... I'm one of the lucky guys who had one on my truck to begin with!

There is a post on using the power stroke intercooler. Lot of fords to rob with dead powerstrokes. I don't think it would be criminal to use the ford stuff on our trucks. The post suggest that it might even give a little boost over what the Dodge item provides.

If you are going for more power, do this one way or the other right away.

I don't know the answer to this question either. Does your truck have small or large injectors? The early ones cracked the heads around the injector bore. Power boosts may increase the likelyhood of this problem.

Banks will sell you just the intercooler... . but the price will make you think that it's gold plated. It's over $900 as I recall.

The early non-intercooled engines have the large diameter injector tip (9mm) and the heads were more prone to cracking but I'm not sure under what conditions. I'm sure it's a duty cycle thing. It was enough to make Cummins redesign the head for the 7mm injector tips.
