Does anyone know if the 2004. 5 to 2006 factory intercoolers are any bigger than the 2003 to 2004 intercoolers?

i beleive they are the same size, the only difference is that 05's came with plastic ones. there was a post on here somewhere or on TDR about a guy buying a banks intercooler for his 03 and putting his metal one from the 03 on the 05 that had a plastic one and fitting the same. hope that helps

Can some one explain to me what the intercooler does? What is in the intercooler

I should know this aready but I don't

Thanks

Air leaving the turbocharger compressor is hot (it's temperature is a function of pressure and efficiency). The intercooler cools the compressed air, which increases its density. Higher density air allows a greater mass to be packed into the cylinder at a given pressure, thereby increasing power.

And just to add the the confusion factor of the intercooler: If you could compress the air in a turbo, send it through and intercooler (this is a rapid release in pressure) then into the motor without having to go back into a pipe it would be really cold..... this is how a Airplane's Air Conditioning System works except it never gets compressed again.

In Turbo/Intercooler applications the air actually heats up going back through the pipe to the intake because it gets compressed again, but it has been cooled allot in the intercooler so it's not so bad... ... . better intercooler, better job of cooling before it gets compressed again.

The Banks intercoller is a quality product that is much larger (read thicker) than the stock unit. It is pricey..... you get what you pay for! I can tell the difference over the stock unit..... It is almost impossible now the get the egt over 1100 degreese where before with stock intercoller higher temps were seen all the time ... ... my temp probe is behind the turbo. Hope this helps! :)

The Banks Intercoolers can be had for less than $800 if you do a little searching ;)

It"s a wall hanger, The last guy that fell for this was lucky we had one core damage in shipping UPS claim we had the hardware available, the New one was ordered complete,He would have been SOL without the damage core,Try and get the hardware separate From Banks is a PITA,the complete core with all accessories and hardware. $1,150. 00 P/S.

I just bought the Banks intercooler for my '05' 3500,, it comes with the high rise intake, I paid about a little over $1000 directly from Banks, it is all metal and considerably larger for better airflow ,,haven't installed it yet but looking forward to see any improvements,, first of the mods to come, any comments on boxes and exhaust would be welcome,, am occassionally towing a 14000 lb toy hauler,,,,,,

Not sure what you are refering to here TWest? Someone was able to order the I/C without the rest of the kit?

The one I ordered and recieved was the full kit (High Ram, Piping, Clamps, Boots, Intercooler) and I paid just over $800 including shipping to Canada. It arrived in perfect condition. It comes in one BIG box! If anyone wants to know where I got it let me know.

City Diesel Intercooler

I just got my City Diesel Intercooler today. Got it installed,... . easy install. Looks real sharp. It has 35 rows of cooling fins and my stocker had 27. It's probably 5/8" wider on the end caps. I went with them because of the warranty and their claim that it's good for 5X more psi than I will ever need. The warranty is 2 years against ANYTHING! Pretty hard to beat. The price was $... ..... PM me if you want or pull them up on the net. Not the cheapest unit but then I wouldn't want the cheapest unit as you generally get what you pay for. I pulled off that rubber piece of c$%& on the passenger side that made the Intercooler look weird through my grill. The guys I showed it to said it looked menacing now. That doesn't mean much though as I don't intend on being in anyone's rear view mirror for long. :D

Jeff, If you would Email a copy of the Invoice,GBE has Pricing and security agreements with Us and many Level 1 dealers that Pay Thousand for this, and if GBE is selling the IC for $800. 00 with shipping this would violate that agreement,Some of the retail sales People at Banks try to get their #s up at the end of the year. If Colin or Gale get win of it they usually put a sift end to it,I don"t know what up with GBE,the last 6 month have one deception after another. That a great Price I would encourage all to take it.

TWest, I didn't buy the TechniCooler directly from Banks, but rather a Diesel Performance Shop. Not sure why there seems to be 2 different prices for the same thing? I will PM you some more information... .
