I have a new 2002 Dodge 4x4 truck and am interested in using Amsoil in both front and rear differentials, in my 6 speed transmission and engine. I heard it was bad for a six speed manual transmission but the Amsoil rep says it would be good for it. Also they want me to add on a one micron filter for longer oil and engine life. So who ever is using this please tell me how it's working for you. Thank you.

Instead of Amsoil in the transmission, I suggest that you use Red Line MTL.

MTL is designed to run in a transmission, however Amsoil is not.

I noticed in your profile that you have a 2002.

It is a toss-up from dealer to dealer whether they will honor your warranty with Amsoil or not. If you want to use the warranty to its full extent, I would use what the owners manual specifies.

If there is any failure that is lubrication related, they will look for any loophole they can.

Check out the latest Amsoil war in the 24V forum. Happy reading!

I use Amsoil in all the points you listed and have had very good results. It is not bad for the six speed, I have oil analysis and 40,000 miles of better shifting to back it up. Analysis results come back excellent on Amsoil oils used in the engine as well. Extended drains are possible with oil analysis. I have and think highly of their bypass filter. E-mail me if you want further details. Good luck with your choice.

Dherman:

I am using amsoil throughout my truck although I have an auto not a sixspeed. I currently use the 15w40 hdd for engine oil, series 2000 75w90 in both front and rear diffs, and the universal atf in the auto trans and transfer case. I also have the dual remote bypass setup. I am quite happy with their products. If you go the route of the dual bypass do a search for member CPFF (John Strenkowski) and contact him. He is an amsoil dealer but more importantly he manufactures a billet block adapter for the dual bypass unit that is far superior to the one supplied by amsoil. He even makes a kit with stainless steel braided lines and a mount for the unit. I can't speak highly enough of the quality of his products. If you go the dual bypass route at least check them out. With the dual unit you will notice a slight drop in oil pressure. I have had good results with amsoil and my oil anaylsis always comes back good but I do not run extremely long drain intervals as some do. I change the full flow filter every 5k and the bypass filter every 10k, replace the oil once a year which for me is about every 25k. I change the diff lube yearly as I do with the transmission and transfer case. Fluids except for engine oil look like I just poured them out of the bottle instead of having a years worth of use on them. Some members have reported problems with shipping but I have never had a leaky bottle myself and usually buy a year supply at time and it is delivered right to my door. I would also recommend becoming a preferred customer or dealer to get the good pricing or find a buddy that is and is willing to give you the price break. I do prefer synthetics, I am not an amsoil fanatic but I do like their product and just prefer to do all my shopping at one place and at one time. I have had trouble finding synthetics at my local stores.

I know alot of guys have had some adapters that have leaked but mine has not seeped a drop for 30000 miles. Did they redesign the adapter recently or am I lucky.

Mine leaked beacause it would not stay tight. The CTD pulse kept causing it to back-up on the threads and created quite a mess. The aluminum billet adaptor along with braided SS lines available from TDR member John Strenkowski is absolutely bullet-proof! IMHO anyways!

I use the Amsoil 15W-40 in the engine, 75W-90 in front and rear diffs, their ATF+4 (?) in the transfer case. I've stuck with the factory stuff for 6 speed transmission refills. I have mixed emotions about the oil filters. Sticking with the stock, non-bypass system and the very good Fleetguard LF3894 filters guarantees no warranty arguments; but, you don't get the benefits of bypass filtration. I chose to go with a dual bypass set-up, but wish I had gone single bypass or Oilguard instead. The dual bypass set-up drops your oil pressure some, and transmits some noise at low speeds. These are all very much just my opinions; there's way too much on old threads to try to repeat it all here!
