Would really appreciate some constructive criticism on my front bumper project. I have yet to add the brush guard and recovery hooks. Plan on cutting in some 6 inch round fog lights in the front angled plate, and mounting some 6 inch drivers on the top of the bumper. Will also be cutting some breather holes in the front plate for the power steering cooler.

Front bumper in Readers Rigs

Thanks!!!!

looks decent for home built... and it'll look much better w/ all the fixin's and painted up.

I prefer pipe for the leading edge, but I'm sure plate is cheaper/easier to work with.

works for me!

Is this thing for real? That is the ugliest bumper I have ever seen in my life. That thing is huge, hideous and way too much... My god, it looks like the bow of the Queen Mary was transplanted on the truck. .

I think it looks good. Think of how good it will look with deer blood and parts splattered all over it... and no damage to the truck!

No specific plans to break anything with it. Just want to beef up the front end a little. It looks too weenie like on the front when stock. Definitely needs some protection up there to make it look like a real truck... I don't want to ruin the looks either, that is why I am asking opinions. Of course, finished welds, ground smooth and then powdercoated it should cosmetically look much better.

Oh, yeah. and this will replace the one damaged when someone tried to pass me right before a stop sign on a 2 lane road and there wasn't enough room for her to pull back in without tagging the factory bumper.

Thanks for the comments so far.

:--) That is awesome! heheeh i bet next time that lady won't pass you again unless she wants her car to be cosmetically rearranged :-laf .

I like that bumper sure looks sturdy enough, sort of looks like the diamond plate bumpers the local Volunteer Fire/Rescue has on their F450, KEWL... . we all want to see a pic when its finished. . Oo.

J, thats gonna be a nice bumper. Be sure to post completed pictures. Also, keep up with your hours. I'm considering building one myself. At the moment, I'm thinking 4" pipe rather than plate iron.

I think it looks good except that it sticks out a little too far in the front unless you are going to mount a winch up there that's exposed. That's just my opinion of course. I will agree with the rest of the group that it will look much better when it's finished.

It is a little big for my liking - heck I would have to put those backing sensors on the front of the truck :) . I am very interested in seeing what it looking like finished. Are you planning on abrush guard or lights for it... :D

JWerkheiser what size of metal are you working with? You might want to look at my bumper in my readers rigs? It is made out of all 1/4" and 1/2" steel plate. For the grill gaurd it it 2 7/8 oil field pipe. Tell me what you think of it, I also had it sprayed with a bedliner material.

Looks good to me... if you're not going to put a winch in it, I'd try and incorporate some storage compartments in the bumper - you certainly have the room for it! :)
