The site says that the 6-speed auto is for "Light Duty Trucks". Thats interesting, I though the 3500 was a HD truck. Sounds like this transmission is too weak for a 1-ton or 3/4 ton truck. Time will tell.

Just stick with a manual transmission.

2-4 ton rated trucks??

Article says for 2-4 ton trucks... . does this mean total weight or weight capacity?

3500 IS a Light Duty truck in the REAL truck world. Kenworth, freightliner, International, Sterling, Mack, etc... make Medium and Heavy duty trucks in the REAL truck world.

In the "consumer grade" truck world of 1/2, 3/4 and 1 tons... the ram 3500 IS a Heavy duty truck.

I've just put over 1100 miles on my cab and chassis with the Aisin in the last 5 days and I will have to disagree with most of what has been said above. If it shifts into neutral everytime you step on the brake, I sure didn't notice it. As far as light duty, it pulled my trailer with no problems, I wasn't all that heavy, about 12k but it never hunted for a gear or down shifted unless I really got down on it. It pulled the trailer in 6th with no problems at all. I never felt the need to go to the tow-haul mode, it never felt like it was in a bind at all.

Dodge also just went to a 3 yr, 180,000 mile warranty on the transmission and torque converter, don't believe they would do that if they were worried about the transmission.

the D/A has an excelleration problem when doing 60 and you try to pass the slow vehicle in front of you, in other words dont commit to the pass unless you have lots of room, did you notice anything like that, and how responsive was it when passing

I think the key idea in that paragraph is on the brake AND stopped. The next time you are at a stop light check it out. :)

Remember, just because AISIN has a feature in the programming they provide that doesn't mean it will be in DC's program. :{

Yep, car dealers think of a one ton as a heavy duty truck.

I retired after nearly 30 years in the real medium and heavy duty truck sales. It an entirely different business atmosphere than car and light duty trucks. I get a chuckle every time I hear a one ton called a "heavy duty truck".

I'll have to get back to you on that, most of the miles were on Interstate 10 with the cruse set on 68-70 mph. It will most definitely downshift, I tried going over the ship channel bridge in Houston with it on cruse at 62 mph and it down shifted and pulled it with no problems. Haven't been on any two lane roads with the trailer yet. I'll let you know how it does when I find out.

I'll be watching how your truck works. I'm glad to see you have it "rigged out". You are the ultimate "tester" of a truck... lots of loaded miles. Your comments are appreciated.

Any photos for your "Readers Rigs" yet?
