Diesel Fuel raisining like the BREAD

HERE is an article that my sister sent me. It doesn't directly impact our trucks but it talks about the publics opinion on diesel vehicles and their interest in hybrids that is driving the market.

I saw this survey when it first came out. I was initially disappointed, but have since become skeptical. In my opinion, the way the question was posed ("what technology is most likely to to succeed in the U. S. ") is a strange way to gauge interest in a specific technology. Furthermore, this survey finds a large percentage of respondents think diesels are LESS efficient than conventional gasoline vehicles. That seems rather dubious to me.

Granted, there needs to be a major marketing campaign in the U. S. if diesels are to become successful in light-duty vehicles, but most surveys I've seen recently (which pose the question more directly about if a respondent would consider diesel) contradict this finding.

IMHO look at how the diesel has come along in the light truck, and what happen to the SUV market (Jeep Liberty) how often do you ever see one of those sitting on a lot used?

I was reading the article until I got to the quote

Lastly, there is diesel price volatility. “Across the U. S. , as of mid-January, the average price of premium fuel was $3. 30 per gallon; for diesel, it was $3. 33,” Hall says. “Gas taxes fluctuate from state to state, but the variations are far more ballistic with diesel. ”

I thought the tax was the same and did not differ according to the fuel(Gas vs on road diesel)?

Hopefully somebody can edumacate me on that.
