Anatomy of extended oil usage and analysis

locomotives idle for days, why is it OK?

Would it not be simpler to just use a good Bypass filter setup and syn oil or a good Dyno oil and than just change the filters every so often? On one of my trucks I have not changed the oil for over a year :--) change filters every 10,000 miles replace with make up oil I am good to go. or is my thinking wrong  Tod

Yes I use blackstone oil labs to test my oil.

The system Cummins uses for the extended drains is good, but I use the amsoil by-pass and their Synthetic Diesel oil and analyze every 10,000 miles. Hve been doing this on each of the 3 CTD trucks I've owned. The last one (a 94) had 150,000 miles and only one oil drain in 9 years!
