Got confused with all the "this, that and the other" about ATF+4. Per Chrysler, its all synthetic fluid per their specs. I bought super tech @ $4.27 a quart vs $7 a quart at the local auto store.

I have a couple of un-opened quarts of Valvoline "Full synthetic" ATF+4 which now appears to be what all the other ATF+4 is anyway. It really makes me shake my head with the advertising gimmicks that go on with oil suppliers...

Anybody have any additional info on ATF +4?

I plan on a pan oil/filter change here soon on the 68 RFE.

What is the question? Basically if it says ATF+4 and is on the certified list it is the right fluid.

The ones that don't say ATF+4 but will say meets criteria or is compatible with are not the exact blend. Doesn't mean they won't work but it will pooch your warranty.

I guess my post was just that. ALL ATF+4, no matter what brand is synthetic fluid period. Some brand it as such and sell it for many more dollars. Valvoline says its synth, but so is super tech sold at wally world for 2.50 a quart less.

Big question is that is a group 3 or group 4 base stock. It is permissible to call some REFINED group 3 oils synthetic since 1999 ("The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus decision in Mobil™ vs. Castrol™ allows engine oils formulated with Group III hydroisomerized base oils to be advertised as “synthetic oils” along with the traditional Group IV PAO and a few Group V oils.")

I just use AMZ/OIL Universal ATF on everything I own. Buy it by the 30 or 55gal drum.

Bug Out Don't waste your time unless you are going to do a complete fluid exchange. IMHO no different than changing 1/3 of your oil and filter only.

A fluid exchange is really easy for a self wrencher.
