Another vote for Stoner's Invisible Glass. Newspaper is good for 99%. When you use newspaper, you get ink on your hands. Seems to me that some of that ink gets on the glass too. Also, it falls apart and leaves paper bits scattered around. For that last 1%, cotton t-shirts are the best. When you wash them, hang them to dry. Don't put them in the dryer, and especially don't use fabric softener, which is wax based. As for strokes, I use vertical and horizontal and alternate back and forth until the glass feels clean - inside and out.
