intermittent check engine light

My friend's brother has an '08 2500CTD and on occasion the check engine light will come on intermittently but does not register any codes. Anyone had this problem?

If the light comes on there will be codes stored. Try a better scanner

Thanks for your reply, the truck was taken to a Dodge dealership so I would assume they have better scanners than D.I.Y'ers.

They do but sometimes they don't know how to use them.
