Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Universal P7100 Throttle Swap Kit

Ongoing no start dilemma

1996 Dodge Ram 3500. Automatic. Problem -Not Shifting into overdrive.
A while ago sometimes the truck would not shift into OD and other times it worked fine. While messing with it I found that while driving down the road and it would not shift into OD I could put the trans in neutral , turn off the ignition, then restart the engine and place back in Drive and it would later shift into Over Drive and operate normally untill shutting it down and later driving it again.
Now when doing the above the overdrive will work properly untill I come to a complete stop (like at a stop sign) and then when I proceed it will not shift into OD unless I do the restart trick going down the road.
I've ordered a replacement TSP however it looks like a difficult process to replace. I would like to know if it could be anything else that may be an easier Fix. Thanks

My 1996 had OD shifting issues similar to your description. I never did some of the things you describe. I did go to a guy who specializes in auto transmissions with diesel engines. He diagnosed the problem being a faulty Throttle Position Sensor. He replaced it and I have not had shifting issues since.
