Truck: 2005 2500/ 4WD/ Short Box / 48Re/ 325-600/ 45,5XX miles YTD.

Symptoms: Truck has intermittent stalling or stumble when accelerating from a dead stop, or from 35/45 mph. Problem started about 44K miles, there are no codes or CEL and the truck had been trouble free since day one up until now.

The engine never quits, just blows black/ dark grey smoke when it happens, the truck will roll but just barely, the regular diesel sound or rattle momentarily goes away but the engine hasn't quit. Not sure if that makes sense or not? Anyway, If I treat the tank to a healthy dosage of Powerservice/ MMO I don't have the problem for a month or so or approximately two/ three full tanks of ULSD without adding any diesel additive. Still looking for help on this matter, thanks in advance. I can't afford to keep buying additive every fill/up at $15/ pop this truck should run fine under #2 ULSD

The symptoms sound like a boost problem, and since the 05 is the year they put plastic side tanks on the intercooler I would be greatly suspicious of boost loss when you get into it. Possible that it is coincedence that you put in the additive and the problem goes away. If it is a small leak or just starting to open up is could stay sealed untill your boost level is high. I saw one guy who towed a car trailer with no mods at all and lost 3 intercoolers. After the dealer kept replacing them with the same tank he finally forked $1500 for and aftermarket one so he would not loose time on the road.

Let us know what it turns out to be.

Diesel Lady > Thanks for the input, blew my plastic IC this past summer testing my Edge programmer on one of the higher settings. D/C replaced the plastic/end unit with the superceded aluminized unit. As far as I can tell it's sealed up pretty good.

R C Cola > I replaced the Fuel Filter approx a month or so before I started having the problem, it could be a coincidence and it has plugged up shortly after? Also I am running the factory induction/ filtration. Replaced the OEM filter element with another oem unit at the same time as the fuel filter. So far this week it hasn't stalled or stumbled yet, but I'm just 67 miles into my full tank of ULSD without additive, I might replace the fuel filter tomorrow and see if the truck holds it's own through the next couple tank fulls without a hiccup. If not I can't live with this and will have to think of a plan pretty quick. Can't afford $90- Fill/ups plus $15 Additive every time

Black smoke and having the usual rattle clatter of the diesel go away is indicative of too much fuel. What is your boost level when this happens? The other thing you could check is your low boost setting on the Edge Juice W/Attitude. You can set each power setting with a sub setting that will give you much more fuel on acceleration. Maybe some issue with the Edge I suppose but not usually if it is intermittant. Might look at the MAF sensor in the intake. I have heard that sometimes they get wierd if you get into it real fast. It is easy to check visually as it is right on the Air Filter box. Beginning at the intake tube. Man this is a strange problem or what.
