My truck is a '99 Auto with a Comp Box - replaced lift pump and VP44 about 2 years ago and 15K miles ago. For about the last month or so my turn signals will occasionally not work. When I turn them on they will blink once or twice and then stop - same deal both right and left hand. Tonight the check engine light came on for the first time - I scanned the codes and came up with a P1689 only. Do I have an electrical gremlin somewhere that is causing both problems, or are they totally unrelated? I'm going to be seriously bent if I have to replace another VP44. Any suggestions or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Code 1689= No communications between ECM and Injection Pump Module.

Try cleaning connectors with contact cleaner.

Turn signals could be the multi-function switch acting up, maybe broken wires or bad connections.

I am getting the same code, it started after I had my vp replaced. It does run fine other then throwing the code everyonce in awhile. I never checked the connection yet.
