I am trying to track down a coolant leak..... overflow bottle is showing a loss of about 1 quart per thousand miles. While driving, I occasionally get the strong smell of coolant... . then all is OK. Stopping the truck to check for a leak turns up nothing obvious (I'm always on the interstate when it happens, so hard to stop real quick to check).

While investigating right now, I see the tell tail white stain just under where the weep hole (should) be. Lots of powder stain and it tastes like coolant.

Before I go ahead and swap out the water pump, has anyone ever had a pump that leaks intermittently (seemingly in large gulps)?

Thanks.

If you are smelling it in the cab you need to take a close look at the heater/AC drain, could be the heater core. bg
