New engine

I'm lovin' this Jake

I found a 1986 Int. S-1600 dump truck with a non-turbo'd 7. 3, 5-spd. no 2 spd. rear though. It has a dump bed on it and the bed is the only thing that needs any work. The engine has roughly 60k on it as it was swapped in place of the tired 6. 9 in 91'. It is electric over hyd. no air. Single cylinder sisscor hoist. The asking price is 7,000. Is this a good deal or should I run? Thanks in advance.

03' QC, H. O. 6 spd. 4X4

the little int trucks were great for just about anything. i have owned and been around several of them, like i said they were good trucks. the 6. 9 was a tad week if you are the kind that loads one hard, but they would get the job done and hold up well. the 7. 3 was a better match, but under some situations, they were weak too. [i have a habit of loading them to the max]. i have seen many of these engines hit the 200k mark in a bus or single axle dump. do a inspection of the hoist, the sisscor type is fairly popular, but does not hold up well if abused. what type of wheels does it have?if it has 10 hole budds, thats a plus. take it for a drive, most i have been in had a top speed around 65mph,thats about right. some had a top speed of 55,not so great if you have it going up and down the highway. usually one that has that low a speed has had a rear end swap out, usually from a similar trk with a gasser. price, the price you post is a bit high for the year model, this will vary by the region, but unless very clean and has ac,its a little to high, dont know if you are dealing with a dealer, but they have a habit of setting a higher price[asking]. for what its worth i have seen these trucks sell regualary at auctions for 3 to low 4grand,buying from a individual 5 to 6 grand in good condition.

Thanks JUeckert for the info. I may just pass on it mainly due to the fact that it dosen't have the 2 spd. rear end. I have a 2 spd. in my old Dodge 500 grain truck and that makes a world of difference in them pulling and hauling loads. And you're right about the price being a little high, I checked them out last night on some trader sites. Thanks.
