At what fuel $$$ leval will RV and Diesel Rigs go south?

Adventures in Trailer towing. My own dumb fault

I have a laptop and cell phone and want to use them to access the net and email while on the road with my RV. I have Verizon Wireless. Any TDR RV'ers use a setup like this? Tell me the pro's/con's and your experience, please!

Many Thanks!

Mike

I have been using this for a couple of years now. It is used on weekend camping trips and the added service is $5. 00 a month with the software and appropriate phone cable available at any Verizon store. The time usage counts against your airtime so it is not used extensively. I have had absolutely no problems with connections or any dropped calls since I started using it a few years ago. Hope this answers some of your questions.

I've used verizon with an Ositech card to hook to my wife's older phone. I just dial local numbers for Earthlink where ever I travel. If your phone has a usb cable available and is set up for a modem, you don't need to pay extra for any special service, I haven't.

I'm going to switch from Cingular because their phones don't let you do that unless you buy their service.

We just got home from 6 weeks on the road. We mainly used a wireless connection in campgrounds that had the service. The service varied from excellent to frustating and costs varied from reasonable to almost stupid. We were able to do most of the internet things that we wanted but not always when we wanted. Most places have a dial up service available but you are limited for time as others want on. I think that in another year or so the wireless services will be better. About all I had to get to go wireless was an a wireless-B USB adapter(antenna) that plugs into a USB port to help pick up a signal. I am not real computer savvy but your computer dealer should be able to help.

All of the Flying J, Loves, Pilot, TA and many other truck stops offer wireless service at thier facilities.

I have AT&T/Cingular GSM service and love it. For $39. 95/mo I get unlimited internet service and access my cell phone with a bluetooth receiver plugged into my laptop. It works great.

I use it to find loads, send and receive FAXs and Email.

I have T-Mobile. I have a PC card and unlimited internet for $20 a month with an existing voice account, otherwise it is $30 a month stand alone. I think the wireless card was around $300. Works OK, usually at dialup speeds, sometimes slower, sometimes faster. I have found that it only works within T-Mobile areas. Voice works while roaming on other GSM networks, but no go on the data while roaming.

I've used Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile cards with varying success. Verizon and Sprint work pretty good. If I had to drop down to one, I would carry the Sprint card, I get a better connection in more areas.
