Solar Panel Question

Jackson Hole Wyoming

I'm planning a trip from Portland TX to Nashville then to Columbus OH next month and was wondering how I30 and I 40 was thru Arkansas. I ran these roads back in the early 90's and swore I wouldn't do it again as it almost beat me to death!!! If they still are as bad as I remember, I may run I 10 to Baton Rouge then I 55 to Memphis then I 40 to Nashville. Then 65, and 71 to Cols. OH. (Gotta stop in Bowling Green for the Corvette Museum!)

Anyone out there familiar with these routes??

Thanks in advance.

Don

As far as I know these roads are not any better than they used to be. But I would bet there has been some improvemnts. If you decide to go thru Louisiana there is considerabe construction On 10 between the state line and Lake Charles. there is also several miles of construction before Lafayette.

See you live in Portland. I live sown the road in West Sinton. Are you a land owner or farmer. My wife works at the FSA office in Sinton.

Good luck on your trip.

I-40 thru Ark.

Hi I-40 thru Ark is still a disaster, I read a post recently where a fellow hauling an 8300# tractor stopped an tried to adjust the load to keep it from bucking so bad. I was thru there a couple of years ago an swore I would not do it again.

Thanks very much for your updates. I think I will take the long way thru Louisiana. You would have thought they'd a had it fixed by now. The last time I was thru there was back in the early 90's and it was rougher than a cob then!!!!

I love my state, but don't come down to Lousisana to get to better roads. They suck! If you plan on going up I-55 to Mississippi, it is a long bumpy ride. Once you get to Mississippi it is good, but in the swamp... that is what it is, a swamp.

Once you get past Lake Charles and Baton Rouge (I-10), the interstate to I-59 is pretty good. And going up is ok. Once you get out of Louisiana.

I know I am hard on roads in Louisiana, but the money is not spent where it should be... enough said... .

Last year, during the summer, my daughter asked me. When are we going to be in Mississippi? I asked her why. She said maybe the road won't be so bumpy. Even eight year olds know the difference!

40-65-71 !!

Not familiar with the roads from texas, but from Memphis to Colunbus 40-65-71 are your best shot except for the major cities. If you don't have a good atlas, Wally Mart has a good one which will show you the route's going around each of the major cities. . Going straight through the cities will have you pulling your hair out !!

getting better

I drove Dallas to NY four times in the last 2 years, twice last summer, and in defense of our tax dollars I will say that the roads in AR are improving. Also I am taking this route leaving this thursday, and I'm planning on going through AR. I know exactly what the issue is, done this with a trailer 3 times... as soon as I got past LR on the way up I HAD to stop to regain my senses. Stopped twice at the SAME exit, by sheer coincidence...

Seems the roads from texarkana to LR are much better but the roads from LR to Memphis are still rough and congested?????. Only alternative I consider is going through St. Louis, tried that twice, and it wasn't too bad. Mississippi????Cajun route????? I'd go through St. Louis before that route... .

If I'm missing something, WILL SOMEBODY FROM AR (or has been on this route more recently) PLEASE CHIME IN HERE... . know once I see the pyramid I'm Memphis past the worst...

... also is fuel in KY still cheap?

I-10 LA.

Went to LA last Christmas. I-10 is rough from TX state line to Lake Charles. from there on it was tolerable. Travel slow (with care) past the Mississippi through Baton Rouge. Traffic can slow suddenly through the curve.

Arkansas is spending a Billion$ to completely resurface I-30 and I-40. It is much imporved and will be complete in 2005. They've been working on it 3 years now and it is going quite well. I just traveled I-40 West to East and back and made great time. Still a few miles of old bumpy road, but not like it used to be.

I think the I-10 / I-110 merge is the only place on I-10 coast to coast where you have to change lanes to stay on I-10. The three lanes on I-110 (heading east) have full access to I-10 and none to continue on I-10. They plan on taking one lane from I-110 and giving it to I-10 just by restripping.

Only problem nobody has the nuts or nobody is nuts enough to say what exactly what to do from the LADOTD. :-{}

Can any one else comment on I-40 through Arkansas?

Last year was pretty bad. I need to go that direction again this year and was hoping it would be better.

Thanks for any info.
