I've travelled both ways with my dogs. I'am in the Canadian Airforce so when I get tranfered I usually cross through into the US. Cheaper gas better highways. Never had a problem with the dogs. I carry there vaccination papers with us. Never been questioned.
Just current rabies certificate. Probably a good idea to have registration (although I don't think it is required). Probably find out more on the Canadian tourist site.
We go back and forth several times a year with the dogs. Just current rabies (within 12 months) as Dean mentioned is all that is required. Actually the requirements are pretty well the same in both directions across the border.
Nevr had any problems with mine. Make sure the shots are in date like stated above. I always carry a certificate of health from my vet but they never asked for anything, they ( the customs agents) even gave the mutt dog threats a few times.
