Presently have a used HX35 that needs rebuilt. For whatever reason the hybrid 35/40 just has me interested to no end. Is it worth the extra effort for a 6 blade impreller on the compressor side, read it was lighter? Finally have my truck all gauged up. It's an '89 5 speed that just turned 500,00. In the process of installing a powerjoke I/C,have a 4" straight exhaust, it's time to put the screws to the VE. Thanks in advance for anyones input. Will be adding more as the (extra) pennys roll in.

I sent my stock turbo out the High Tech Turbo in Utah to have it made into a hybrid. The price was right, but in the end, I'm not sure it was the right move. It actually spools up slower because the compressor is bigger and heavier while the exhaust turbine stayed the same. It does produce power, but it moved the torque curve higher up in the RPM range. I can cruise along no problem, but when pulling a hill with a load or towing, I really have to watch the egts because it will get too hot. I have to downshift more than I probably would have with the stock turbo. Once I learned to drive it this way, it's fine, but if I had stayed with the stock turbo, it would have been fine, too. I would have also had that money still in my wallet. I believe that the stock turbos are capable of so much more than most people give them credit for-myself included.

By the way, this is in no way a statement on High Tech Turbo, themselves. Their workmanship was second to none and they were great people to deal with on the phone. If you need to rebuild your turbo, I would deal with them, just put it back to stock.

I noticed a slight increase in cruise EGT when I put the 6blade/60mm turbo on my W350, but peak EGT is MUCH lower than stock. I put a PDR HX35 on an early 91 (8blade/ 58mm), no other mods, and it spooled faster and ran cooler than stock. There is a point where the impellar can get too big for your use.

WHat wre your current EGTs and future plans for the truck? If you think you can use it, now is the time to get it. I think the 50mm baby H1C is too small to go much higher than stock levels, and isnt quite adequate at times.
