I recently traded in my 02 Ford F-250 Powerstroke 4x4 and picked up a new 06 2500 Mega Cab 48re in Inferno Red with the Laramie package. There was really nothing wrong with the Ford but my wife just told me to go look at the new Dodge Rams.

First I love the new truck and the Cummins with CR. I have followed this site on and off for the last 5 years and hope you guys can help me with a few minor problems I've encountered over the 2 weeks I have owned the truck.

The truck is going to the dealer tomorrow for these items but if I can get the answers here or there are simple fixes I'd prefer to just do it myself.

1. Ignition switch goes into all positions accept ACC. It just won't click back and when I force it a little it feels like the key may break. It has probably been like this all along as I haven't used the ACC feature until I tried today. This may require replacement.

2. Dealer installed rear entertainment DVD system has radio interference when on FM modulation... ie broadcasts radio signal on top of the sound from the DVD. The headphones work fine.

3. Dealer installed remote start requires two clicks to start and sounds two horn "chirps" when it does and one horn "chirp" when you cut it off. This will not make the neighbors happy at 600 am. I have read the manuals for the truck and remote start system but cannot find a way to disable the horn chirp. Dealer says it is possible to get rid of the chirp... . anyone hear have this feature and remember how??

Again I appreciate any help and would love to avoid the dealer all together or in part.

Thank you,

Ben

Welcome to the TDR. Regarding the ignition switch problem, I don't mean to be insulting but did you check the owners manual? I don't have an '06 but I do know that my wife's Civic doesn't go to ACC by turning the key CCW. Maybe they got rid of the CCW rotation in '06? The owners manual would say so (or someone who actually owns an '06 will chime in here).

Regarding the DVD system, I'd say the dealer didn't install it right. They should be able to fix it (or screw it up worse, if their electrical guy is a hack).

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I did check the truck owners manual and it shows that you should be able to rotate ccw into ACC. The service adviser also checked one of the trucks on their lot and had "no problem" turning it back. Replacing the ignition switch shouldn't be that big of a deal and the dealer seems very willing to follow up.

I'll try to post on how it turns out.

Thanks,

Ben

I don't use the ACC position often (used it twice), but IIRC you need to press in the locking button next to the ignition to turn the key to ACC. This is the same button that you need to press to turn the key to the OFF position during normal shutdown operation.

Welcome, Ben!!! I have an '01 Powerstroke myself. Didn't know how I'd like the change, but after four months I am really liking my Dodge! The guys here are a great help!!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

On the trucks with an auto there is no locking switch to depress, I think that is only for the manual transmission equipped trucks.

Welcome Ben, there'a procedure spelled out in your owners manual for shuting off the horn honk feature.

We always enjoy hearing insight form converts and we look forward to hearing yours.

Good luck!

The horn chirp for locking the doors is listed in the manual and I took care of that the first night I had it but the remote start horn chirp I could not find addressed in the owners manual.

Nothing to bash on my 02 Ford 7. 3 liter Powerstroke (last year before the 6. 0 l Powerstroke debacle, thank the Lord I missed that). It was a good truck and gave me zero problems I just wanted to upgrade. I would have bought a Dodge/CTD in 02 if they would have had a real crew cab when I sold my 95 Ram 1500.
