DHRA Indy Motel Warning Letter

I saw it coming too. Some just want to thumb thier noses at the law, and do what they think is cool.

I miss the days of 'thunder in Muncie'.

Maybe us old timers can put something together again

The COPS had NOTHING TO DO WITH IT! The Hotel managers met with the police and warehouse district owners in a townhall meeting. They basically told the police that this behavior WILL NOT be tolerated and had some sort of something showing the police shining their spot light so that the guys could hook the cahins to their trucks properly for tug of war. The officers involved were in a great deal of trouble over it. The town runs 7 officers a shift typically. Last night there were 26 on top of the usual 7. I keep hearing how its the fault of the police. I saw what RUINED the entire event all summed up in 10 minutes.

There was a newer duramax with about 8-10 people in the back ranging in ages of 16-20 (tops). Drinking beer bongs in the back of the truck for a couple of hours at the hotel. As they started to leave, our group stoped them and told them to hang out as there is a truck pulled over that had people in the back and they were looking for that, and just ticketed that driver. This kid, (mabey 17 years old) jumped out of the bed and told the girl driver (that just got done chugging the beer bong that was behind the wheel) to drive this SOB because HE owned this F%&*@$&G truck. (mind you we SHOWED HIM the cop with cherrys and berrys on) Off they went, chirped the tires, and off went another officer that we didnt even see after them.

So yea, the event is RUINED. I listened to all of the " just say no to DHRA" stuff, pushed it aside, and just looked forward to hanging out with the Great Lakes TDR,and give it the benifet of the doubt, but now I will do it elsewhere.

TO all of those looking to go back to Gaston... ... can you say NADM? Stay tuned.

On a more positive note it was really great to see my diesel friends again!

That would be the only reason for going there for me. With conflicts in my personal life complicating my vacation time I had a choice,Indy or Scheids and the return to the "Action Track" was a bigger draw for myself.

The way the law treated everyone out there does not suprise me at all. Quite frankly,in my opinion, once you left the main event,no matter if it was the Old Muncie show or Indy, people were out of control. Even in Muncie after the Saturday night ritual the complete lack of repect for other peoples property was evident by just looking at the trash left laying about.

Many will dispute my thoughts, but the actions of the Indiana Law came for a reason and those who felt it would never happen seen it first hand. The reason behind their show of force is the same as it was when they ran the Mopar owners out of town and the heck of it is the show itself in either case was not the reason. Inside the fairgrounds all was kept in place and under control however outside people felt they could do what they wanted, with no regards to others safety or personal property and that was what caused most of it.

I chatted today with someone who was there and what he told me he seen was exactly what they did years ago. So then that leaves the promotors of this show with looking at other options, find a way for the group to be entertained safely inside the grounds or move the show. You all know what they did with the National Mopar show and its return back to Brice Road was also met with plenty of law. Yep,there are places to carry on but getting out of hand costs you in mre ways than one... ... ... . Andy

Property owners and Police may be naive the first few years, but nobody in their right mind will risk this kind of liability and/or want to cleanup trash after any group as inconsiderate (drunk?) as this year's diesel crowd. I heard last year's mess wasn't much better. How many times can a promoter be expected move an event because of idiots. I enjoy the tug-of-war and burnouts like most others, but let's face it some people take it too far and make it (more) dangerous. I hate to sound like a prude, "danger & trash oh my" but I can't blame the hotel owners for their actions this past weekend. Why should they risk their job or business for us?

I remember two Muncie events that were very cool, and the town was swamped with people for both of them. Just a different (more mature) crowd I suppose. Count me in as an oldtimer!

I think the turnout for street class was 16-20 trucks

I would guess around 10 for work stock, 6-7 for pro-mod (more then I expected for that class)

I will agree with Smokes... ... ..... it is not the cops fault... ... ... if you come to expect to be able to do what has gone on in the past 3 years you were going to IRP for the wrong reasons. (I remember the damage to the restrooms at the track the first year).

However I will have to say that the owner of the Motel 6 by raising his rates to 150. 00 a night is not the coolest thing to do... also having his employees kick people out of his lot that were coming over to visit..... well it is his property but very distasteful... ...

As far as the event... ... ... ... it is done from what I saw... ... ... ... . we will not be back. The stands seemed to have a good turn out Saturday, but the competition was a very week showing. So we too left Sunday AM, and started to rethink what can be done.

Sad thing is we really need to unite this sport and we keep pulling in all differnt different directions... ... ... ... it is bad..... later Jim.

Thunder in Muncie after hours party was not totally innocent. I know I cleaned up trash at Lees Inn more than once, trying to make us look better. They were also some vandalism to trucks, and a few yards/trees ran over.

A few burnouts is nothing- destroying private property is another.

Is it the age group that has got the bad attitude, or just mob mentality in general?

Sled Puller, when I first went to Thunder in Muncie, I commented that I was in the younger 1/2 of the age groups. While I am 8 or so years older now, it looks like the average age has gotten quite a bit younger.

They also drink more ( and in public) they have a lot more money spent on the trucks and bring the young girls and dare them to flash. I'm no prude ( I like to watch!!) but this causes problems with the police. I did see it last year and watch an episode getting roudy. This one the police broke up.

It will be the end of the comroddery we all had.

Is it the age group that has got the bad attitude, or just mob mentality in general?

Probably a mix of both, but more mob mentality. Given the number of people, fortunately there were a lot more that demonstrated respect than those that did not. If my the age range observations were correct then it stands to reason that the majority of the younger crowd were not throwing their trash around and flirting with trouble. Of course the older I get the younger "they" appear. LOL

I can say that i saw this coming last year. The young drunks were out of hand last year, and are the main reason we did not go back this year. I hate to see an event die because of the rudeness of a group. Randy

If you think the event died because of the after hour events, you are so wrong.

The first year at Indy the NO ONE knew what was going to be tolerated off site, but yet the hotels were packed, the pits were full. Same with the second year etc... until some changes happened... ... ... and not the at the hotel level.

Too say that it died because of rudeness of a group is not what was going on. Since you did not go this year you really can not say now what has caused the change? Just makes me a bit upset that people are quick to point out what they think "caused it to die".

It was a good event not over the top but a good time none the less. An event is only what you make of it. Ya the cops were cracking down on the vehicle moving violations but the were being VERY linent on other things I saw this first hand. Like I said a good time good showing and they added a extra pulling class which was cool. Ill be back next year.

This is the first time the last 6 years that i was unable to make it. To be honest I am not that upset, because for me half of the fun of the trip was the evening festivities. Last year we brought the jet engine in the back of the truck and after we fired it up at the warehouses the cops came over and asked if we were going to fire it again, because some of them missed it! The cops have been very cool. It is a shame that some had to take it too far and bring this on ourselves. I to miss the old Muncie.

YOW!! SOME???:-laf

Although... . Ive never seen a written law against firing jets ... I bet there is one now in Plainfield.

Even with all the cops around this year they still let us sit outside and BS with people I may only see once a year. So was not all a loss, for the most part they were still pretty cool.

I did try to pay for a ticket in advance to do 1 burnout..... but when the word tow came into effect... ... ... well I said OK..... and we all laughed.

However they did like watching the guy with the propane torch light the unburnt fuel from both stacks of his buddies truck... ... ... ... ... . so it really wasn't like we had to be in our rooms.

Again it was the show that is having the issues... ... ... . besides let us not forget who got us into Plainfield in the first place... ... ..... right Sled Puller?

All I did was find a hotel that would give me a free suite if I "promised" to fill like 10-20 rooms by April sometime... I said, I think I can do that--it might be a bit sooner... and it might be your whole hotel..... I believe it was 2 days from the announcement, lol, the old days!!:-laf

"I shall return!"

Pick a spot fellas, with a drag strip and good pulling track, and lets do it. ;)
