I'm getting ready to do my Universal joints in the front at the wheels(left and right)and I bought the Precision #351 U-joints from NAPA. Are these the right ones for a 2003 Ram 2500 4X4 Quad,Auto. I have noticed some people are using #295. I called summit and they telling me to use #354. I talked to Precision direct and they are saying use part #464. Need help quick. Thanks guys

The 351 and 295 are rear driveshaft u joints not axle joints. I had to put Mopar joints in my axles because the aftermarket one I tried wouldn't work, but that was 6 months ago.

Okay, if it were me I'd buy enough of #295, #351, #354, and #464 to do all the joints with each part number. Try each one out, then return the ones that don't fit.

The Precision part # 464 is correct but Napa can't get them yet. So I had to get them from the dealer for $76. 00 part number 5086665AC. Thanks anyway guys.

Front axle u-joints

Are you saying that you need to replace the front axle u-joints already? (vice the front drive shaft u-joints) What kind of milage do you have and what are your indications that they are bad? Sounds kind of suspicious to me. Those joints usually last a long time due to regular exercise. Ken Irwin

My front left axle joint decided to lock up at Muncie last year. I noticed making sharp turns in the hotel parking lot, the truck was sort of bucking and the wheel was jerky. (sort of like 4wd on dry pavement  ) Mileage was about 29 or 30k. I soaked both sides in oil which improved it a little and the dealer replaced them both (warranty) when I got home.

Related question: How do you change the front U-joint on the front drive shaft? I just looked at mine (this thread made me concerned) and the front U-joint doesn't have C-clips... it looks like it has little pins to hold the caps in place. Why use different U-joints at opposite ends of the same shaft?

Thanks in advance.
