I just bought a 1996 4x4 qc dually 3 weeks ago it had 225,500 miles on it. Any ways I put 3,500 miles on it last week, I went to okl 2 times and both times hauled to cars back. I could hear the trans was kind of noisey, growling noise. I am just wanting to know if any body is over filling these like the getrag. And also I notticed trans fluid comming out of the output shaft on the transfer case like it is comming out between the yoke and the splined shaft on the transfer case and is flinging it all over the bottom of the truck. I changed the rear seal when I got back the first time and I checked it later and it was still doing it just wanting to now if any body else has experinced this?? Thanks And this 12 valve runs grate and will run better soooon Justin

I've repalced the seals on my tcase and still have leaks. Next time I will put a little silicone between the tcase and the seal. Check the breather for the tcase sometimes they can get pluged, then the case will pressurize and push the fluid out the seals.

growling isn't a good sign :(

mine had the slightest little bearing noise after I did the clutch job, and I overfilled it 1qt, and the noise went away. that was 10-20k miles ago.

When I had my Double Disc clutch assembly installed in mine and the trans all freshened up at Enterprise Engine in July last year they added a extra quart of over the factory fill in it also. The truck has gotten 20,000 miles on it since then and have had no issues with any noise what so ever, except for the sweet sound of the double rattling when engaged... ... ... . Andy

Just replaced the mainshaft in my 4500, are you guys saying to overfill every time ? I just put the 4 qts in like it said and never gave it another thought. How do you overfill, down through the shifter ???

yup, I overfilled through the shifter... I think I may have been a hair underfilled due to the slope of my driveway... then I figured out you could fill through the shifter, and I overfilled it by ~1qt or so.

try some scotch brite on the shaft the seal rides on as sometimes the seal will have cut a groveand it needs to be removed before replacing the seal

Transfere Case Seal

When we assemble transfere cases at work it is a must to put some sealer on the outside of the seal before installing the seal into the t- case. We get brand new t-cases in at work from nvg and borg-warner and we pressurize these t-cases and dip them in water a tank and look for leaks and that is the most common place for a t-case to leak between the steel part of the seal and the t-case. Ok i quit rattlin on. :)

Thanks

Well I will add a extra quart to it then, The trans dont sound bad it is just the imput shaft baring growling like alot of them do when under a load. The t case is not leaking it is the yoke on the drive shaft that goes into the splined shaft on the t case. It is coming out the end of the yoke Hope you fellas under stand me and I am not loosing u. any advise on this????Justin
