Is anyone using these dually valve extensions with chrome skins?

I was wondering what needs to be done to get them to work with the chrome skins - do you drill a hole in each wheel skin?

I was using the rubber extensions. I quit using anything since one extension broke off and let all the air out of my inside dually while traveling through Northern California with my heavy cab-over camper on the truck. I now have a long truckers double head gauge, which I always keep in my truck to check my air pressure and I also have the same type double head air filler nozzle. This has worked very well on my 95 and on my 05 DRW trucks.

I have a set of brass ones that I bought for my truck. They are over $100 but they are soild brass and they install from the inside of the rim. Very high quality. I haven't gotten them installed yet. PM me if your interested and I will get the name of the CO when I get home. Ken Irwin

On those, the funny looking clip sets in the hand hole of the RIM, not the skin.



The kind I have are similar, but they actually BOLT to the rim. I got these because a friend of mine with a ford dually said the clip kind came off and messed up his valve stem and let the air out of his tire.



So far, they have been working very well.

Yes, I understand that the clip attaches to the edge of the slot in the wheel (what you're referring to as 'the hand hole'), my question, and the seller has yet to answer it, in order to properly fasten it to the edge of the slot in the steel wheel does one have to drill a hole in the chrome skin so that the bolt can pass through the skin and directly contact the steel edge of the wheel itself rather than pinching the skin against the steel wheel and having a very poor fastening arrangement subject to failure.



I can see why that clip wouldn't work on those Alcoa wheels that Ferd uses 'cause those appear to have a taper on the edge.



I am also looking at the brass extensions that Ken suggested. (BTW, thanks Ken. )

that is the main reason why i didn't get them. the ones i have still clamp to the rim, but the clamp is a lot smaller, and fits fine under the chrome rim cover.

So what do you do when you rotate tires? do you have to rearrange the stems too?

Not to be stupid here or anything... . but, how the heck are you supposed to get the nut on the valve stem if you do not dismount the tire from the wheel????? As they say in their dorections .

I have also experienced failure of the OEM rubber valve stems. When I purchased my truck, I took it to a local truck tire shop and had the rubber valve stems replaced with steel valve stems. I re-used the OEM plastic valve stem extensions which makes it much easier to access the stems without removing the wheel skins.



I rotate my tires regularly and steel vlave stems using these extensions are no problem when rotating front to rear or inside to outside on the rear axle.
