Is anyone using veggie oil in their 24 valve?

I've been running straight veggie oil in my '97 2500 12 valve Cummins since 2006. Alas, the old truck has well over 300,000 miles on it, and I'm thinking of finding something a little newer. The 12 valve's p-7100 injector pump has no problems with the veggie fuel; how would the VP-44 (I think that's what's in the 24 valve) do? I've read that it's not as tough as the p-7100.

With the way the p pump gov works the issue with the veg oil is thickness

heat takes care of this. You live in Torrance, Ca the heat is on your side.



The vp44 is a rotary pump and has little issues with vo fuel

the 03/04 cp3 pumps work good also



Newer trucks will work with waste vegetable oil its just a matter of thining the oil heat or blending



Dodge Ford Gm Vw they all will run on vo fuel it just a matter of finding what they like

I have been running a 50% blend in my '96 and '03 for years. Only problem with the '03 is the viscosity of the blend in the Winter. I will soon remedy that with a FASS setup. The '96 works beautifully year round.

I've been running a two tank system in my '01 since 2007. I had a few bugs along the way, but I've worked them out and now the thing runs great. The key things are making sure you have enough heat (I have heated pickup in the tank, heated filter, hose-in-hose, and a giant flat plate heat exchanger), and a good pump such as a FASS or a Raptor to keep the VP44 fed and happy. With the amount of heat I have, I can run in subzero temperatures. Feel free to PM me and I can give you a much more detailed account on my VO experience.

question. I live in southern GA. and im running complete stock set-up can i put like 1/3 Vo and 2/3 Diesel?

sure as long as itis clean



clean is not filtered thru paper coffee filters, blue jeans, etc... ... ... ... .

clean is thru real filters if using oil filters then each gallon needs to be thru the filter about 20 times bag filters are the same.



a centrifuge will clean it it one pass but it has to go slow



so the answer is yes

JTM, it takes time. If you dont have the time it's not for you.

I got my filters from Mc Master-carr.

I made my setup out of a few 55gal oil drums, a 110 volt hot water heater and a $30 harbor freight pump.

Add some valves and hose and youre there.

It's not rocket science, but you do have to have time.

with the filtering unit using bag filters or can filters you would be looking

at 4+ hrs to filter the oil using a nominal type filter most filters are this type

what this means is that you have a 10 micron filter on one pass you wil get 50% of everthing 10 microns or bigger the next pass get 50% of the 50 left over and so on.



so if you do the math to get to 10 micron you must pass the oil thru the filters around 15 times take a batch of oil 50 gallons and at 3 gallons per min this will take 16. 6666 min, 17 min times 15 then your looking at 4. 25 hrs



this is if your oil will flow at that rate



a centrifuge under pressure set to flow 1 gallons per min and clean to 1 to 3 microns in one pass

50 mins to clean the oil this would be great.

thanks everyone for taking time and replying to my question. one day id love to do this. it will be a while because i am in an apartment so it isnt going to happen in there. i will keep all this in mind when i actually get a place when i can do this. because it will be alot cheaper in fuel.

will the centrafuge do straight oil ot are the filters needed. Seems like it would do 100-1 microns just need more frequent cleaning right?

the oil does not need to be filtered but its better to filter it



I use a 55 dallon paint strainer 200 micron for the big chuncks.



Some time soon it will go thru a bag filter set and it will be filtered to 50 micron before it goes to the centrifuge.
