Getting ready to buy a Drag comp and tap the pump. Is it worth the extra 50 to use the pump cover or just tap the wire? Whould it be better to trade the M4s for M6s and forget the comp or just run the 4s with the comp. What is the difference on a ETH ?

It wasn't worth it for me. I bought a comp box and cover and installed the comp right away and then waited for the weekend to do the cover. When I went to do it I realized my screws for the cover where tamper proof. I didn't have a tamper proof hex key and after spending an hour driving all over I said to heck with it and soldered. At least I was able to sell the cover to someone else who could use it.

pump cover

I have one of those pump covers and I feel it makes a better connection than just splicing the wire but soldering works good too. Shouldn't be too hard to find a tamperproof torx bit. I can't remember if it's a #20 or #25 torx.

It provides a good connection, but for that I use a Posi-Tap. The best feature of the cover is that you can remove it, reinstall the factory cover, and take a problem to a dealership without obvious evidence of wire tapping.

If you wind up using a cover, be carefull with the screw, they can crack the VP circuit board if you do not follow the instructions. Use a DVM and you will be okay. btw, you can get the torx bit from BC as well.

I bought a used one from a member here. It makes a slick clean installation. Like Heavy Hauler stated, there are no further gains from an ETH after Mach 4. 5's. Therefor, you are near the limits of your VP 44 now & will get only a small gain from taping the wire.

they way I take that is, and correct me if im wrong vendors. Is 4. 5 is the biggest you can run with a comp on 5x5. Without the comp you can run 6s to make up for the other 70-80 you lost not running the tap on the comp wide open.

I didn't think that was what Don meant, but if you are on North West Bombers send him a PM & I'm sure he'll have the answer for you.

I was fishing for the truth when I made that post, But I belive there is a difference when ditching the comp and running the bigger sticks and I saw posts on a different thread I have been looking for but havn't found. Bob wagner belives in the non-tap setup and loves to point out the big-power no tap setups but I havn't been able to find the secific info on running the 6s on a ETH. BOB? clarification?

No it is not worth it. The integrity of the electrial connection os no better than a Scotch Lock. You are better off soldering the wires.

As for bigger injectors on a ETH, you won't get much more power going over Mach 4's.

Exactly what R-N-R said. Excellent connection following instructions and the bit for the Tamper Proof screws can be had at Harbor Freight, a whole set for almost nothing.
