Since I have a cable modem I never really need to worry but as I type this I am on dial-up. How can anyone stand this, and that is while connected at a decent 48,000 bps. If I had to suffer through this all the time I would have alot lower post count. :p :)

two tin cans and a string are what ya get living in rural USA ;)

could be worse and have no connection... or pay the very high price of sat. dish [about $100 a month around here]

ON EDIT. . thanks Curtis

You ought to be here in Rural Central Texas. Fastest ours has ever conected is 24000:eek: slowest 7200 and then your lucky if you don't get disconected:mad: and then some times you can't get on:{ and the isp we are one now is better than the one we were on. Right now we only have two choices.

I have to agree with Bill. I used to have a 9600bps modem and used internet that way for 2 years. Then I bought the 33. 6K I have now and I can't complain, seems like a decent speed for me... been thinking about DSL though... .

"been thinking about DSL though"... THINKING. . ARE YOU NUTS..... WHAT'S TO THINK ABOUT ... hellll I'd be like a spider on a june bug on this if it were available here :p

I'm with you Gary, the only other choice for me is satellite. After complaining to Qwest over and over about disconnects they finally hooked me up to what they called a network line, 56k at no additional cost. Sure beats the 13 -26k I had before.

We just got us a new Dell computer 4550:D and its been connecting at 28. 8:eek: we never saw that on the compaq we had 24000 was the best it ever did but it varied from 7200-2400. This one has been connecting at 28. 8 every time:D so far. Theres night and day difference between the two.

I used to have a 2400 baud modem when I was in high school. THAT was slow.

I go through withdrawls when I have to dial up now. I've been spoiled.

I can guarantee you that when I buy my house, if high speed internet is not availiable than 100 buck a month for a sattelite connection is a steal. To me it is a no brainer. :)

I live in rural area and have been using satellite for 3 years. If I were using telephone lines I would connect at 19,600. I pay 50. 00 a month. It is using dialup for upload and satellite for download. The two way satellite is around 70. 00 a month, but since I don't upload a lot of large files this works for me. My download speeds are 600kps plus. I'll never go back to basic dialup.
