Thanks, TDR Staff

Good or Bad Volvo wia42t with Cat 3406

Powerstrokes, they never learn!

I just sent an email stating the Dodge Cummins community concern. I will advise when they respond. It's cool truck status will shirley be in question.

What exactly is the Dodge CTD communities concern? If I was outfitting a vehicle like this I'd probably pick the F450 or 550 if I was sticking with a full size american p/u. Of course my first choice would be an Unimog.

they probably gave him one just like everything else he got... ... . Oh sorry marketing dollars traded for product, what ever. All I know is the new truck will be promoted as the best ever

just like the first bd trans was in issue 31 or 32... ... ... best trans ever

then in issue 36 or so..... ats trans best ever

earthroamer II best ever. Whatever it is is bull, because its all marketing and free bees not real world reports

I think the above is a fair and objective statement to summarize what I have seen over the last 10 issues of tdr mag

hey earthroamer guy you care to comment on this to let everyone know what really is going

NVR FNSH, I would have to agree with you there. It never occured to me. There is a definite need to up the GVW's on that rig considering that right out of the gate it would be overweight. A good reference would be that New Turtle Expedition F-550. They went to that sized rig due to there last truck being overweight.

I'm sure it's not a loyalty thing but a practicality thing. :)

Not trying to :-{} ;)

Talked to Bill S (earthroamer) at the last RMTDR meeting at ATS. He did confirm that he's going to the bigger Ford for weight (GVWR) concerns. The original Earthroamer will be sold as his expedition camper business takes off.

I'll still be a fan and if he is happy with the new Ford then more power to him! He's just doing what we all need to do and find what works for him.

(tongue in cheek) Besides we all make mistakes.

Anyway, I think that's more a message to Dodge about the availability (or lack thereof) of an equivalent 4500-5500 series with the Cummins anyway... ... Wouldn't that be sweet?!?!?

Brian

Dodge offers heavier duty model trucks in mexico, I'm continually amazed when I'm down there the number of different vehicles I see that aren't offered in the states. I've also seen a fulsize dodge thats something like the tahoe and I really want to find out if it can be had with the diesel in it. The only problem being getting it into the us. Seth

Fred,

I think if you looked into it, it would be the fault of our precious epa regulations and red tape that prevent some of the stuff from being offred here.

PhordRoamer

Guys, let Bill have his dream.

He is entertaining, takes pretty pictures, loves gadgetry and gizmo's, spins some good yarn and gets a lot of freebies for it.

I think his current effort will culminate in a very expensive venture.

He will probably attempt to mate a military command post with a plush motorhome and try to sell it as the best thing ever...

He might even sell a few units to unsuspecting rich folks who can afford them.

Maybe we should start prodding him for a deal on a group purchase?

Group purchase?

I myself will wait until the slide-out version of the expedition campers come out.

Bug-free surrounding zone

Did I forget anything?

I enquired about the new Earthroamer as well. I recieved an e-mail response from Michelle that indicated that the decision to go to Ford was primarily due to two things:

1) Ford was the only manufacturer that would sell them an extended cab chassis cab unit (i. e. no box). Since they are making them to sell, having to pay for and then sell the boxes was an unnecessary expense. The chassis cab has higher GVW than a regular p/u.

2) The ford frame didn't have a "hump" in it, and the lack of this hump would allow them to have a 6'8" interior height while still maintaining thier desired overall height.

Look for more info after the March debut. prices are said to be $85,000 to $135,000 depending on options. She said they expect to ask about $80,000 for the original.

I wonder if Bill will still write articles for the TDR when he is driving the Ford? I have heard that he also published articles in other four wheel drive magazines; the same article as in TDR. The stuff that he writes about is often interesting especially on his web site when he sailed out of Florida across the Gulf. The Turtle Expedition also travels to interesting places and seems to be pretty happy using Fords in their extensive travels. Most of us are not into that much adventure. I admire people who can 'live the dream'. Maybe some day for me, too. It is too bad Dodge doesn't make a real crew cab (in the US) and offer higher GVW ratings for campers that weigh 3500 pounds and up. How much more effort or cost would it have been to bring out a real crew cab in '03 instead of the bigger quad cab? They completely redesigned the truck and it is great, why not make it a crew cab?

I was getting tired of him anyway: I got up this morning to the sound of my Timex watch, fixed some coffee, Folgers, added some creamer, Coffeemate, started my truck, (filled with Texaco Primium Dielsel #2), ate breakfast, Walmart eggs and Hickory Farms smoked honey flavored bacon. Used the camper toilet, made by Thetford, (toilet paper was Charman) drove off using my RandMcNalley road atlas & Garmin GPS, drank a soda (Coke), at lunch I stopped for a burger (Burger King) and had the Earth Roamer special. My new tires (Michelin XYZ'z) hummed along all day. ETC.

Just having a little fun, dont get mad at me.

Tejas....

Yeah, you can hardly recognize the original ER 'cause of all the decals pasted all over. Looks like a Nascar on steroids.
