I pulled the diff today to restack the clutches. I thought it was a tracloc, everyone says Dana 80's have traclocs. I thought tracloc's had 2 spider gears. The one in my truck has 4 pinon/spider gears. I know what a powrloc looks like, I have one in my duster that was built in 1968. Have they changed since then? this LSD is a 2 piece case with 4 gears. It had 7 plates on each side and 5 clutches. Like this

P-P-P-P-P-C-C-C-P-C-P-C-X-C-P-C-P-C-C-C-C-P-P-P-P-P

Is it a tracloc or powrloc? I have pics in my gallery. Thanks

BTW

Oh yeah, and by the way, be sure and give us your thoughts after you've driven your truck with the restacked plates. I put one wheel in sand and the other on pavement the other day and barely made it out! The factory stacking makes the limited slip action almost worthless.

I took the truck out tonight but company came over and I could only drive it around the block. Felt like it wanted to go straight. I mashed the pedal in a turn and the tires sounded like they were both trying to spin the same speed. I have 320lbs of concrete bags in the back right now to smooth the freeway ride, so I can't tell if the truck tires are hoping in the corners. I haven't added and LS fluid yet. I want to hit some dirt tommorow. Right now it just has synthetic 75-90. I read the info on the link, according to that it's a powrloc, except it doesn't have shafts that ramp up the case. anyone else?

The 80 model trac-loks have 4 pinion mates. The easiest way to tell if it is a powr-lok is if the ring gear side of the case has V notches in it then it is a powr-lok.

You can't have a Powr-Loc in a D80 because Dodge never offered it and there was never a Powr-Loc made for the D80. The D70 Powr-Loc and the D80 Trac-Loc look the same other then the D70 Powr-Loc has Ramped Pinions and the D80 Trac-Loc does not. The D80 Trac-Loc has 6 dics and 5 plates per side and the D70 Powr- Loc has 2 dics and 3 plates per side.

I found a little mud after work today. Put the right rear in the mud the left on the dry dirt. I ran it in 2nd gear and had the rpm's at 2000. The right tire spun faster, but the left moved enough to get me out of the mud. Then I found a bigger mud puddle and drove into the middle of it and stopped. I could feel the truck start to sink. I put it in second and let it idle. both tires spun evenly. Then I brought up the rpm's and both tires spun the same, the truck didn't go anywhere though! I rocked it back and forth and finally got out with out 4wheel drive. Then i put the left tire in the mud and the right on the dry dirt, it drove out just fine. I've notice the more I drive it, the more noise it's starting to make. I haven't added the LS additive yet, maybe tommorow. The real test will be when I get it back to the snow and real mud. So far i'm happier with it. Maybe some a new set of clutches and plates will make it even better.

not true i have a power loc cause i took the early d80 trac-loc case that had the v ramps cut into it from the factory but the factory used a 1 pieace cross so you wouldnt get the ramp effect but i replaced the 1 pieace unit with a 2 pieace unit from a dana 60 and changed the pinion spiders to the dana 60 spiders with the dana 80 side gears and clutches and altered the stacks so they were all drive next to a driven works like a spool now if you have any further diff ? fell free to call me at RIVER CITY DIFFERENTIALS 916-852-7109 and i can tell you all the differences between all units :D

24V pirate, Reread my first two sentence. What you did is not a factory installed option or a manufactured part.
